EuroMeSCo to launch three new research groups

As a result of the meeting of the EuroMeSCo ENI Project´s Consortium, held on 7 November in Brussels and gathering members of the consortium and of the Steering Committee as well as representatives of the European Commission and the European External Action Service, the initial parameters of the three Working Packages to be developed in 2018/2019 were discussed and approved:

Working Package 1
Cooperation with Religious Institutions as a Policy Tool, to be led by the Polish Institute of International Affairs

Working Package 2
Changement climatique et sécurité humaine dans le bassin méditerranéen, to be led by OCP Policy Center

Working Package 3
The Role of Russia in the MENA Region. Strategy or Opportunism, to be led by the Italian Institute for International Political Studies

The Call for Researchers to join those groups will be launched mid-December. The participation is open to the researchers from the EuroMeSCo network.

EuroMeSCo to launch a new publication line

With the objective to further anchor the EuroMeSCo network to topical political and policy developments in the Euro-Mediterranean region, the EuroMeSCo network of think tanks will expand its publication lines and open a new line: EuroMeSCo Spot On.

EuroMeSCo publications now include Joint Policy Studies, Papers, Policy Briefs and Reports.

EuroMeSCo discusses minority issues in the MENA region

On 1 November the EuroMeSCo workshop on minorities in the MENA region took place at the Issam Fares Institute in Beirut. The meeting gathered researchers from the network and academics.

After an introductory discussion of the concept of "minority" and related terminology, three case studies were examined: Amazighs in Morocco, Christians in Syria, as well as black people in Tunisia.

The event was organised by Arab Reform Initiative, in the framework of the EuroMeSCo ENI Project, co-funded by the EU and the IEMed.

The final research findings will be published in a Joint Policy Study, to be released in February 2018.

EuroMeSCo examines the new dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean

25 participants, including EuroMeSCo researchers, experts and academics attended a workshop on "New Euro-Mediterranean Dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean", organised by MIVTIM in cooperation with ELIAMEP on 10 November in Athens. The workshop was hosted by the Representation of the European Commission in Greece.

The workshop aimed at presenting and discussing the initial research results of the Joint Policy Study. Participants analysed various factors that may constitute both opportunities and threats to an increasing cooperation between some Eastern Mediterranean countries, such as newfound energy reserves and the war in Syria.

The event was organised in the framework of the EuroMeSCo ENI Project, co-funded by the EU and the IEMed.

The research findings of the group will be published in a Joint Policy Study, to be released in March 2018.
