NEME News

May 2022

Hello friends,

Greetings from the holy city of Bethlehem, Palestine! Many of us at NEME have been in the Holy Land for the past few weeks leading tour groups, meeting local Christians, teaching academic classes, and attending conferences.

A handful of us were at Christ at the Checkpoint, a conference hosted by Bethlehem Bible College. The gathering seeks to challenge evangelical Christians to take responsibility to help resolve the conflict in Israel/Palestine by engaging with Jesus' teaching on the kingdom of God. We appreciate our courageous Palestinian brothers and sisters in Christ, and the Israeli believers who join them. Amid dire circumstances, they are leading the way by inviting the global church to join them in wrestling with the difficulties of their daily life and the theology that contributes to it. They were joined by several outstanding South African evangelical leaders, including Rev. Frank Chicane and Rev. Moss Ntlha. These ministers led their churches while living under the difficulties of apartheid, and their godly example and exhortation was an inspiration to all. There is much for the global church to learn from our brothers and sisters who live in these very difficult contexts and we are excited to introduce you to more of them in the days ahead.

Please keep up with us on social media in the weeks to come, as we will be sharing more about our experience over the past few weeks. We will also be hosting a few short "live" prayer meetings with local leaders from Bethlehem and Jerusalem. On June 1 (8:30 am ET), we will chat with Hedva Haymov, who works with the reconciliation ministry Musalaha. On June 2 (Time TBD), we will chat with Rev. Jack Sara, president of Bethlehem Bible College. In both events, we will learn specific ways that we can pray for Israel and Palestine and spend time in prayer together. Please join us on Facebook Live for these events.

If you would like to help support our growing team here at NEME, please consider making a donation or becoming a regular donor.

Many Blessings,

Mercy Aiken
