A BIG Week for student Aiden Rose.

Aiden has been awarded the Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia scholarship to complete his Private Pilot Licence. Aiden was selected from a large field of applicants by a panel of senior flight instructors and examiners. The scholarship is valued at $7,700 and is sponsored by Airservices Australia and is available to students of RFACA member clubs.

A huge congratulations to Aiden, we look forward to presenting Aiden with his Private Pilot wings later in the year.

In another first for Aiden, he undertook his first solo cross country navigation flight on Saturday 17th July. Aiden flew IHK to Kempsey and then to Port Macquarie. On landing at Port Macquarie Aiden noticed the steering was not operating as expected. He was able to exit the runway and shutdown. Aiden contacted his Instructor, Mike Nolan, who contacted our maintenance provider at Port. It was discovered that the brake hydraulic line had broken and the fluid leaked out. Well spotted Aiden. (Mike drove up to Port and brought him back to Taree).

An eventful first solo and well done for sensible Pilot in Command decision making by Aiden.
Aiden is ready to depart on his first Solo navigation flight.
MRAC Grant for Kitchen Upgrade
Local Member, Steve Bromhead MP visited the MRAC on Monday 19th July to present a grant cheque for $41,100 to be used to install a new kitchen and storage facilities in the club house.

Mr Bromhead was very interested in the work already completed using the previous grant monies and inspected all facilities in the club. He was shown the visitor log where all visiting pilots and organisations sign and was impressed with the breadth. He showed particular interest in the use of the facility made by the various emergency service  organisations.

New Advertising Banner
A new banner advertising our Club, flight training and scenic flights has been ordered. Mid Coast Council has approved the placement of the banner next to the Fly Pelican banner on the airport boundary fence.

There are also new brochures for scenic flights and flight training which are in a holder on the outside of the main entrance (for when the club is unattended) and these have also been distributed to local tourist outlets.
Works in Progress
Work continues on the outside of the building with a dedicated group of members coming together on Mondays.

the latest is that our front garden entrance is now finished, dead and scraggy plants have been removed, hedges trimmed and mulch laid - looking very welcoming now.

Work is now progressing on the Eastern side of the Club house, including replacing the wall on the storage/bar area in the hangar - looking good.
For those who have some free time, whether you are skilled or unskilled, there is a place for you here on a Monday. The 'To Do List'  below is calling you, everyone is welcome.

The club has purchased an active carbon monoxide detector which will be fitted to the aircraft shortly.
