Announcing the Manitoba Fibre Festival 2017 Pattern Collection
Our exciting new project this year celebrates our community of fibre producers and artisans with the creation of patterns featuring local talent from sheep to shawl.
Designer ash alberg is curating this collection of accessory designs, and is also leading a series of master classes focusing on the skills needed to develop, publish and promote patterns; including pattern writing, publication, social media and photography. The classes are hosted by Wolseley Wool.
The next class is this Saturday February 11.

Beginning March 1 ash will be accepting design submissions for the collection, and connecting the designers with yarn from local dyers and spinners. Selected designs will go through a photo shoot and a process of tech editing and test knitting. The collection will be launched on Ravelry in early August and then the knit-a-long fun begins, leading up to the Festival in mid September.
Pattern submissions should include the pattern idea, a schematic or sketch, a swatch of the featured stitch, and a suggestion of the yarn to be used (maximum 3 skeins). Yarn sources should be from any Manitoba Fibre Festival vendor or other local spinner.
So, if you are a designer, dyer, tech editor, or possible test knitter and want to know more about this project, please get in touch.
ash says "if you're interested in being involved in any aspect(s) of the collection, please let me know! we're soliciting folks primarily from manitoba, but also saskatchewan, western ontario, and alberta (basically, if you have come or will be coming to fibre fest, please give us a shout). all enquiries and submissions can be sent to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. hope you can join us!"
Ash spun this yarn from a batt dyed and carded by Maureen of Tog and Thel. Watch for its further evolution as part of the 2017 collection.
Vendor applications open on March 1!
