GIRL GUIDES TOUR

The Anson Trefoil Guild of the Girl Guides with Recycle Right Tour Guide Anna Sondalini.

In mid-August the RRRC was visited by the Anson Trefoil Guild, the senior members of the Girl Guides. The ladies were enthusiastic to learn about what happens to their waste after it goes in the bin. After finding out about all of the uses for ‘waste’, the group was keen to get out and let their friends and family know about what they had learnt, and how to improve their recycling habits.

RECYCLE RIGHT AT THE PERTH ROYAL SHOW 2014

The logs that are being used in the Greenfingers garden at this year’s Perth Royal Show have been collected from the RRRC Green Waste Facility and are currently being milled into seats.

You can watch live filming of the Channel  7’s Greenfingers Gardening program each day. Recycle Right will be there with a fantastic interactive display, games and activities. You will also get the chance to take home some great sustainable give-aways, such as reusable produce bags if you complete a short survey.
We look forward to seeing you there!

FREMANTLE CAR POOLING

Car share trial for Fremantle
The City of Fremantle has approved an initial two year car share trial to promote an increase in the uptake of car sharing options and facilitation of car share operators across the City.

The City will now undertake work to enable a fleet of at least 50 viable car share vehicles in the area by 2020. This network of vehicles (to be owned and managed by private car share operators) will enable households and businesses in Fremantle to have access to a car without having to commit to the purchase of one.

Car share programs allow members to book a nearby vehicle for a short time, unlock it with a membership card, and later return the vehicle at the end of the booking. Cost is calculated on time and trip distance.
TOUR THE RRRC

BIOFILTER MAINTENANCE

The SMRC are currently carrying out maintenance on Biofilter 4, adjacent to the Railway Line, as part of the general maintenance program. The maintenance will ensure the bio-filters operate at an optimum level.

We anticipate the maintenance will have minimal impact to the odour management system and will be completed in early November.

Due to additional machinery in the area, tours to the Waste Composting Facility (WCF) will be suspended until the maintenance program is completed. Information on the WCF will be shown via screen from the Education Room.

COMPOSTABLE BIN LINERS

In the SMRC your green-topped bin is composted so it is best to use a compostable liner or newspaper to line your bins and dispose of your waste. Have you tried using compostable bin liners?

Compost-A-Pak ® is 100% compostable and biodegradable, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic bags. Compost-A-Pak ® is accredited to the stricter Australian Standards and is suitable for organics waste collection and diversion to either home composting or industrial composting facilities.

To help us to keep plastics out of the compost please use compostable liners and put all other plastics into your yellow-topped bin to be recycled.

You can also get a free sample of compostable liners if you come on a tour of the RRRC and come and see what happens to your waste!
