World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel 20-26 September "God has broken down the dividing walls"

Each year the World Council of Churches encourages prayer and action for peace in this week.  Wonderful worship and educational resources are available - please make them part of your church events that week.

Palestinian Christians Clash with Police over Apartheid Wall
The three Roman Catholic priests tried to pray among olive trees that bulldozers and mechanical diggers were seeking to uproot but were stopped by police.

One demonstrator was arrested as he tried to plant an olive sapling in front of the excavators.
Extremist Jewish group wants churches in Israel destroyed
The leader of a Jewish extremist group has been questioned by police after publicly advocating the destruction of Christian churches in Israel on religious grounds.

Benzi Gopstein, head of Lehava - a far-Right organisation - was summoned to Israel's national police headquarters in Jerusalem after the Vatican called for him to be prosecuted and his group outlawed over recent comments. Mr Gopstein claimed that attacks on Christian churches were permissible under an edict ascribed to a 12th century Jewish philosopher.

He argued that churches had "no place" in Israel under Jewish law.

Israel wrecked my home. Now it wants my land
The world is watching Susiya to see if Israel will demolish the community of 340 Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills….Living under the threat of demolition is a horrible experience. The Palestinians of Susiya probably feel disoriented, unstable and scared that their way of life could be dismantled at any minute. I know, because I am in a similar situation. In my neighborhood, the destruction has already started.

Palestinian stone throwers face up to 20 years in jail
The Israeli parliament has approved a law that imposes up to 20 years in prison on people convicted of throwing rocks at moving vehicles, drawing condemnation from Palestinian activists and officials. 
Israeli settlers kill Palestinian toddler and his father in arson attack
Israeli settlers killed a Palestinian toddler and injured four others after setting their home ablaze near Nablus in the occupied West Bank in what the Israeli leadership called an act of terrorism.  The toddler’s father died in hospital a week later from his injuries.

Palestinian hunger striker Mohammed Allan tests Israel's new force-feeding law
A Palestinian man under Israeli administrative detention slipped into a coma, with doctors vowing to refuse to force-feed him.  He was cleared for released last week when the Israeli Supreme Court said his health had so deteriorated during his fast that he no longer posed a threat (read more)

Rivlin: Israel has 'right' to settle in West Bank

President Reuven Rivlin said during talks with settler leaders on Monday that Israel had a “right” to build settlements in the West Bank, his office said in a statement.
