Join your name to a letter to the Pope

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has joined Friends of Sabeel in North America, Palestinian church leaders and 200 religious leaders in writing to the Pope - voicing concerns about the treatment of Palestinian children by the Israeli military but also the effects of the occupation more broadly.  They have now opened up the letter for any Christians to sign and there are now over 2,000 signatories.  PIEN has signed as an organisation - would you sign the letter?

Six Palestinians killed last week by Israel – Islamic Jihad respond with rockets.
Among the six killed was a Court Judge killed at the Allenby Bridge which Israel’s Prime Minister expressed regret over.  There were also three killed by rocket fire into Gaza, and a 20yr old shot while throwing stones Read more.   Islamic Jihad responded by firing over 30 missiles into Israel, with no injuries reported, and Israel fired back again – also with no injuries recorded. Israel threatens participants in “Christ at the Checkpoint conference”
As participants arrived in the Middle East for the Bethlehem Bible College’s 3rd ‘Christ at the Checkpoint’ conference, the Israeli Government issued a last-minute advisory that threatens potential visitors not to attend or else they will be “targeted” by Israel and its supporters.  Read more.
Knesset releases laws privileging Christians
A new law passed by Israel that differently designates Muslim and Christian Palestinians was opposed by the Israeli Equal Employment Opportunity Commissioner, and accused of seeking to ‘divide and conquer’ Palestinians.  Read more.

A small bomb at Gaza's Catholic church is the latest challenge to the Palestinian Christian minority in Gaza. Read more.
Tyres of thirty Palestinian slashed & graffiti “no co-existence”
This is just one of recent such attacks in in East Jerusalem. No reports have been made of arrests in regard to these incidents. Read more.
Trigger happy Israel army violates human rights with impunity
Amnesty International has criticized the lack of proper investigations by the army of unlawful killings and injuries to civilians. Israeli forces have resorted to excessive force to stifle dissent and freedom of expression Read more
“We Refuse to Serve in the Occupation Army”
50 young Israelis have declared their refusal to serve in the Israeli military, the largest group in history. They state that “in a conscience call they find they cannot be part of a system that perpetuates injustice”.  Read more
Gaza man creates art from Israeli ammunition
A Gazan youth used spent shells to create handicrafts to disprove stereotypes about Palestinians. He found the shells from the remains of missiles and ammunition from Israel bombardment during military offensives. His work has now been converted into an exhibition of art from the ruins of war.

UN Special Rapporteur analyzes “apartheid” practices by Israel
Richard Falk, UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said that Palestinian rights are being violated by Israel's prolonged occupation of Palestinian territory and "ethnic cleansing" of East Jerusalem. UN member states should consider imposing a ban on imports of produce from Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Read more
Internationals join Palestinian farmers in Olive Planting
Under the call to “Keep Hope Alive”, internationals from 12 countries joined the collaborative Joint Advocacy Initiative and Alternative Tourism Group Olive Planting Program in February 2014, where nearly 2000 olive saplings were planted.  Read more

Belgian organizations protest settlements goods
Twenty Belgian human rights organizations have launched a campaign to boycott the sale of goods from Israeli settlements in Belgium, demanding that the European Union take concrete action to put an end to the occupation.
