"O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together!"

Just what are those Millers planning to do in Alaska?

"Sing to the LORD, all the earth;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples."
                         (I Chron. 16:23-24)

Dear <<Greeting name>>,

If you've ever wondered "why Alaska?", "why now?", "what needs to be done that James and Shannon are equipped for?", or "just how are they planning to implement ministry?", then this is the email you've been waiting for!

Our current calendar follows below, as well.

Millers’ Vision for Alaska Missions

Consider the spiritual needs of Natives living in remote villages in Alaska:

  • Of the 229 villages in Alaska, 105 have no gospel witness.
  • Most of these villages are not accessible by road, so aviation is the most practical means of reaching them.
  • Alcoholism, abuse, and suicide plague the isolated villages and leave the people with no hope.
  • Some in these villages have heard the gospel through missionaries who have come in the past, or as children through camping ministries, but they return to the village with no pastor and no means for spiritual growth.
We recently joined InterAct Ministries to help meet this need.  InterAct has been serving Alaska for 60 years and has trained Native leaders in the past through the ministries of Victory Bible Camp, Victory High School, and Arctic Bible Institute.  Many Native leaders that have come to Christ through these ministries have expressed to InterAct a desire to embark in a concerted effort to train more Native leaders in the villages to meet the spiritual needs where they are.

Discipling Native leaders in the villages will take a multi-faceted approach:
1.   InterAct is already working with a Native-led organization called Alaska Freedom Journey.  I will be assisting AFJ by
  • Teaching at bi-annual training modules at InterAct's campus in Palmer, AK,
  • Flying Native men to and from the villages in which they reside in order to attend the training,
  • Maintaining regular contacts with these men by flying to the villages, teamed with a Native believer, for continued training and discipleship.
2.   I am also in the application process to become a faculty member with Alaska Bible College so that, as they bring their distance education online, I will be able to go to remote locations to tutor students one-on-one in their studies.  We also have the goal of beginning an extension campus in Fairbanks.  (All ABC staff members are supported missionaries.)

3.   Another part of our ministry will be flying to villages as a family to encourage believers, pastors, and missionaries through bringing supplies, music and evangelism ministries, fellowship, and helping hands.
We are looking for individuals and churches to financially partner with us so that we may return to Alaska to begin this ministry.  I would love to share with you how God has prepared us and how our family plans to serve.  If you would like to schedule a meeting with us, please call me at (907)322-0320 or email

For several years, a native gentleman who lives in a village on the Yukon River about 250 miles from Fairbanks has been asking InterAct for help.  There has been no one to send, so he leads Sunday services by reading the Daily Bread.  With our addition to the Alaska team and my ability to fly to his village, I will be able to help equip him for the work right where he lives.
Our long-term goal would be to have several men like this trained and take them to other villages on a circuit, dropping them off in villages as we go so they can minister the light of the Word to their people.  I believe this is consistent with Paul's example in II Timothy of “entrusting the teaching to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
