2 weeks to go!

All systems are go for what's shaping up to be a really great National Carers Week 2013!  Among many other things, the Partners are busy confirming events to celebrate Family Carers, we have updated and added to the Carers Week website, and we are finalising details for a media campaign to highlight the wonderful work being done by Family Carers.  Updates on our activities are below, along with a quick introduction to some of the Partners (you got to meet the other partners in our previous editions).

If you have any updates you haven't sent us yet on what you will be doing for National Carers Week 2013, we would love to hear from you - - and if you send us details of the events you'll be hosting, we will include them in the Events database on the website.  Click on, to find the registration form, useful tips on hosting an event and a merchandise order form.

NCW Photo Shoot

On 29th April we were joined by Family Carers and RTE presenter, Nuala Carey, in the garden of the Carmichael Centre to take some photos which we will use to publicise National Carers Week.  We were lucky that the weather held up and the few showers passed over Nuala promised!  Keep an eye out in the media during National Carers Week for more images, and be sure to let us know if your local media highlight local Family Carers and events.  You might also hear our radio ads in the coming weeks, highlighting the wonderful work of Family Carers in Ireland.

Cuisle Holiday Centre

Located within the magnificent 50 acre site of Donamon Castle, Cuisle is just a short drive from the quaint town of Roscommon. Cuisle is a truly unique place where you can escape, unwind and relax. We have a fleet of wheelchair accessible transportation that guests can use to travel to and from their homes as well as on day trips, which we regularly organise.

Our facility is 100% wheelchair accessible. This means wheelchair accessible accommodation, restaurant, bar, breakfast room... everything.  Not only that, our highly trained and friendly staff specialise in providing respite care and supported holidays and breaks to people with disabilities. So if you need additional support - it's available.

Why are we different?
Cuisle is a holiday centre with a difference... It is a truly unique centre and is the Irish Wheelchair Association's National Holiday Centre. We specialise in providing accessible and supported holidays and breaks to people with disabilities. Our experienced and highly trained staff are available 24/7 to meet your every need.

We supply a wide range of aids and appliances including profiling beds, hoists, monkey poles etc. All of our bedrooms have personal call bells and we have staff available at night. Please click here to download our brochure (PDF)

Care Alliance Ireland

Care Alliance Ireland is the National Network of Voluntary Organisations supporting Family Carers.

Our vision is that the role of Family Carers is fully recognised and valued by society in Ireland.

We exist to enhance the quality of life for Family Carers.

There are approximately 274,000 Family Carers in the Republic of Ireland. Family Carer support is provided by a number of organisations, including those dedicated solely to carer support and others who support carers as part of their response to individuals with specific conditions. We work with our 88 member organisations and other agencies to support them in their work with Family Carers

What We Do

We work with organisations to provide better information and supports to Family Carers.

We provide them with opportunities to collaborate on initiatives including National Carers Week, a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary Family Carer Research Group, and joint policy submissions.

We act as a distribution channel for information on Family Carer issues. We actively encourage collaboration in all our projects.

We provide cohesion to those organisations working to support Family Carers.

We commission relevant research that supports focussed and quality interventions in the lives of Family Carers.
