Bob Blackman Business Breakfast Club

I launched my new breakfast club on 20th November, as a forum for local businesses to come together, promote their products and services and encounter new opportunities for collaboration. The event was at the Travellers’ Rest in Kenton and had an over capacity attendance. Lord Dolar Popat attended as guest speaker and provided insights into the issues faced by businesses and information on grants and help available.
The club is being organised by Mina Parmar, the CEO of Parmar HR Solutions, and already has meeting dates spanning across 2014 and a number of exciting speakers lined up.
The next breakfast will take place on Wednesday 22nd January at the same venue, with Ash Verma, entrepreneur, businessman and Chair of the Board of Directors for Harrow In Business, due to address the group.

Remembrance Sunday

Hundreds of people from our local community gathered together to pay tribute at the Civic Hall for Remembrance Sunday. I was honoured to lay a wreath in memory of those servicemen and women who have sacrificed their lives to keep us safe. Lord Dolar Popat also attended and laid a wreath.
St Panteleimon Church Annual Dinner and Dance
I joined in the annual dinner and dance celebrations at the Greek Orthodox Church Of St Panteleimon. This year marks the one year anniversary of the official opening of their new church. The event was held in their new Community Hall behind the church.

Harrow MS Therapy Centre
I was invited by a constituent to visit the Harrow MS Therapy Centre which enables local people with Multiple Sclerosis to improve their quality of life with a range of therapies, support, information and advice. I met with Manager, Lynn Hurst, to see the centre and discuss issues relating to care for those affected.
Sainsbury's in Stanmore
I visited Sainsbury’s in Stanmore to meet the team and learn about how the store supports their Local Charity Partner, ‘The Disability Foundation’, as well as the Active Kids scheme, which supports local schools, groups and nurseries in Stanmore. So far this year, the store has raised £2,350 for The Disability Foundation.

Parliament Week
The 15th-21st November was Parliament Week, a national initiative encouraging young people to get involved with parliamentary democracy. Bob opened the week at Hatch End High School, where I spoke to Year 8 and AS Level students, and ended the week with a lively debate at Harrow College.

Mitzvah Day and AJEX Remembrance Parade
I went to Stanmore and Belmont Synagogues to take part in a social action project for Mitzvah Day, to help collect food and toiletries to give to the homeless.

The day was reported on by the Harrow Times, here.
Afterwards, I was honoured to join hundreds of Jewish former military personnel at The Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX) Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph on Whitehall.

The event, which takes place one week after Remembrance Sunday each year, was started by Jewish veterans of the Great War in 1921.
Hanukkah Lighting
I joined Rabbi Lew, Councillors Marilyn Ashton, Manji Kara, Stephen Greek and Amir Moshensen, and Harrow's Mayor Cllr Nana Assante on Stanmore Broadway for the lighting of the menorah to celebrate Hanukkah.

Up in Smoke

I have added my support to a new initiative from the Lions Clubs International called ‘Up In Smoke’, an education resource for those working with 11-16 year olds with an emphasis on the benefits of being smoke-free, rather than just the negative effects of smoking.
Website of the Week - The Disability Foundation
The Disability Foundation, based at the RNOH site in Stanmore, offers subsidised therapies to disabled people; individuals suffering from chronic health issues or medical conditions; as well as carers and NHS staff. Stanmore Sainsbury's has recently teamed up with The Disability Foundation to act as a community sponsor. This will see the Stanmore store actively raise money for the charity and promote the work that it does in the community.
