The Card Concept #68 - Lime & Aqua

Every two weeks, the Card Concept Challenge changes.  I love the colors they chose this week as it reminds me that spring is near.  Click on the card for my blog link and product.  Fun Stampers Journey Lovely Day stamp set was the inspiration to this card.

The Ugly Duckling Card

The feedback from last week's first Art Exchange Mixed Media Group meeting was very positive!  I couldn't believe all that we accomplished in two hours!  Apparently, my doodled heart card was a big hit so I decided to challenge myself this week to doodle another card without referencing anything.  It is loosely based on the fluid floral painting I posted last week.

The lesson is to keep going and to not toss what you're working on in the garbage and here's why:

Part 1 of this card is shown below.  It looks kinda childish in its present form, but stay with me...
Part 2 could possibly look even worse than Part 1 as it lost definition and color and the colors didn't really run the way I was hoping.
Part 3 is the finished card.  Quite a change from Parts 1&2, right?  Ahhhh, the magic of the doodle pen...!!!  Thanks also to Uniball White pen, Paper Smooches sentiment, A Muse Studio and butterfly die and gems.  My favorite doodle pen is Sakura Pigma Pen 05.  I ordered a bunch of these.  Let me know if you want one.  They are only $3 retail.

Gelli Printing Trash

As I was putting away my supplies from our Mixed Media meeting, I found someone's place mat that they probably meant to throw away.  Well, guess what???  Someone else's trash is another's treasure!!!  Take a look:
Isn't the monoprinted panel gorgeous?  The card just needed the bottom panel, ribbon, sentiment and sequins.  Done!
I'm on a Fun Stampers Journey kick this week as I recently received their gorgeous large leaf dies.  To my delight, I had background paper leftover from my Dreamweaver Stencil days and the diecut leaves worked beautifully.  I diecut two additional leaves to layer together to add depth.  So you see, if you get into Gelli plate art, you'll have all these yummy backgrounds at your fingertips (even someone else's trash)!

Speaking of yummy backgrounds, here's the last few Rolodex cards I made at the meeting before I loaned my brayer out.  Can't wait to decorate them!

The next meeting of Sherry's CAS Club at the Bridgeport Library is March 22nd at 3:30.

The Shoebox Challenge is:

Shoebox Kit Sign Ups for March:  Ellie, Kathy, Lyn

Bring 1 card kit to swap

Shoebox cards are a fantastic opportunity to use your stash (believe me, you won't even miss your stuff!).  Just create one CAS card sample and put together 8 kits in  a "shoebox."  You do not have to commit to making a kit as we'll always have at least 3 people signed up to make kits, but the more cards we make, the merrier we'll be!

Sharing the Spotlight

Janice Alvord recently emailed me some paintings she's been working on.  I really appreciate her sharing with me.  She and I got into watercolor at about the same time.  I was drawn especially to the sailboat on the water painting.  If you see Janice, give her a shout out that she is one talented lady!
As always, I'd love to share whatever you are working on!

Have a pleasant week!
