The coronavirus pandemic may have forced us all to alter our plans for Menstrual Hygiene (MH) Day 2020, but there’s no way it will stop our movement for a world without period poverty and stigma! 

MH Day 2020 preparations are well under way and we’re excited to send you this update! 
Read on to learn how you can participate in this year’s MH Day campaign video, help to create a global symbol for menstruation, and contribute to the Action 4 MH Education initiative.

The Menstruation Bracelet: creating a global symbol for menstruation
The rainbow flag for LGBTQ+ rights. The red ribbon for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Mandela’s raised fist for the fight against apartheid. Visual symbols have the power to rally people and to catalyse social change.
The Menstruation Bracelet consists of 28 beads, 5 of which are red (28 = average number of days in the menstrual cycle; 5 = average number of days of bleeding). This year, we want to establish the Menstruation Bracelet as a simple yet powerful global symbol for menstruation and MH Day.

After the success of last year’s MH Day campaign video, we will be making another crowdsourced video for MH Day 2020! You can be in it, too!

Action 4 MH Education
Last year, we conducted the #Action4MHEducation initiative to promote accountability, enable advocacy and catalyse action on MH education. 310 organisations in 134 countries replied and committed to educate a combined 41.4 million girls on menstruation in the course of 2019.

We can’t wait to learn whether we managed to achieve our collective commitments. Please complete our short survey to tell us how many girls you reached with MH education projects in 2019. It only takes a few minutes!

MH Day 2020 partner materials – an update
Preparations are in full swing, and we are working with three amazing artists – Laura Breiling, Dianan Ejaita and Daniela Gilsanz – to create the most exciting set of MH Day materials for online campaigning to date.

As we do every year, we will provide you with a range of campaign materials – including visuals and text – in various languages. We are really excited to share the materials with you! We will make them available on the website from the second week in May and share them in the next newsletter.
