The Green Wye  9am to Noon

This Saturday we welcome the children from Spring Grove School who will be putting us in the Christmas mood with some music and Carol Singing.

New Stall this week- The Shabby Chic Cottage Local business producing hand crafted items including appliqué cushions, hanging decorations and bunting. 
 Low Wood Nursery will have fresh wreaths, indoor flowering Hyacinths and pot grown Christmas trees. We welcome the return of Chilli Affair UK with an array of festive coloured chillies and Dan Tuson is back with his hurdles, baskets and wreaths. Flora's Garden  also returns with attractive pots and troughs full of scented dainty white flowering Narcissi Paper Whites which will be in full bloom over the Christmas period  Also look out for gift packs and festive ranges from The Wooden Spoon and Potash Farm. Our new baker One in the Oven bake house is also back with their unique range of bread and pastries.

Still time to get in those meat, cake and cheese orders ready for collection at our market on the 20th December.
What's in season.....root vegetables including parsnips, celeriac and turnips. Game,including pheasant, wild duck and venison. For slow cooking try the cheaper cuts of beef, pork and lamb.  Colder waters make for high quality fish and seafood, have a look and see what our fish stall Botterells have to offer.

Here is a Celeriac salad recipe to try, it goes particularly well with cold or warm chicken.
  • 2 mugs of celeriac, peeled and cut into matchstick size pieces
  • 2 mugs of apples, cut into matchsticks.
  • 1 lemon, juice and zest
  • sea salt and freshly milled pepper
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 2 mugs creme fraiche or 1 mug mayonnaise
  • Handful of herbs or rocket
  • Handful of toasted pinenuts or walnuts
Mix the celeriac and apple in a bowl along with lemon juice and zest. Season well. Fold in the garlic and creme fraiche or mayonnaise. Scatter over the herbs or rocket and nuts. give a gentle mix then serve.
After visiting the market why not pop across the road to the Latin School where  the Wye Heritage Centre have a display which focuses on 'Wye 50 years ago' - drawing on documents and photographs of the period.
 

New to WYE this Saturday and then every 1st Saturday of the month In the coaching alley of the Kings Head is a Brocante and Vintage Market  9am to noon.
