The newsletter for the inflight connectivity world - June 2016

Your monthly electronic newsletter
from "Get Connected"

Hello and welcome to the June 2016 edition of the "Get Connected" electronic newsletter - your news resource from the world of inflight connectivity and aircraft e-Enablement.

This edition has a business aviation focus, thanks to the Ebace event in Geneva. I was there and there was a good buzz about the event with regard to inflight connectivity

You'll also find a feature on how "Solar Impulse 2" is using Inmarsat's L-band SwiftBroadband and SITAONAIR to keep in touch with its base in Monaco. In case you have never heard of Solar Impulse 2, it is a solar-powered aircraft circumnavigating the globe, breaking numerous records as it goes.

Swisscom and Cobham worked together to strip a lot of weight out of a standard SwiftBroadband terminal and you can find out how it is used. Solar Impulse 2 is currently in the US awaiting its next leg from New York and then it has to cross the Atlantic. We wish them well on their quest to get back to Abu Dhabi where it started out from originally.

July and August are traditionally very quiet months for inflight connectivity news. So if your company has any contract wins or other developments please make sure you tell us about them.

As the only news source devoted solely to inflight connectivity don't forget you can also reach your target audience each month by advertising with "Get Connected". Or why not forward this newsletter to a colleague?

How does 'Solar Impulse 2' use inflight connectivity?

“Get Connected's” Steve Nichols was recently invited to visit the Monaco-based Mission Control Centre (MCC) for “Solar Impulse 2” – the solar-powered aircraft attempting to be the first to fly 35,000km around the world without fuel.

The trip was to see how Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband (SBB) inflight connectivity, coupled with SITAONAIR's expertise, is helping the flight's organisers keep in touch with the lightweight craft that is powered only by the sun.
