The Board Bulletin November 2014

A Letter from USBA's President, Carolyn White

Greetings to all school board members across the state,

It has been a busy October making the rounds to the Region Meetings. What a pleasure it is to meet in the different regions with our fellow board members. Thank you to the boards that have shared “Best Practices” with others. I feel that we can learn much from one another. I want to again remind you the deadline to go online and check off your MBA accomplishments is December 1st.

The USBA staff has stepped up to help with the many things that are happening and being planned at USBA. I am grateful for such devoted and competent people that work to help board members and administrators here in our state.

My thoughts are with Richard Stowell as he is now going through cancer treatment, praying that all will go well in the days and months to come. I have come to realize how much he does for our association and want him to know that I do appreciate his great leadership!

Since November is the month for “Thanksgiving” I would like to encourage us all to reflect on the wonderful things that happen in our schools and districts and find ways to say thank you. I want to thank all of you for the time and service you give your districts, you are good examples to me.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Carolyn White

Legislative Update - Dr. Patti Harrington

One of the finest benefits of associating with board members and superintendents is sharing “best practices” in our work. The 2014 regional meetings have been enhanced by a “best practice” moment with one district sharing what they do that helps students achieve, or a program that meaningfully involves parents, or a method of board study that stretches the capacities of board member knowledge and understanding.
