New Associate Member

Jani-King Hawaii, a commercial cleaning company, has joined the Healthcare Association of Hawaii as an associate member.

The Hawaii franchise was established in 1993, and was recently certified to serve environmental services clients.  Its franchisor, Jani-King International, was established in 1969, operates in 14 countries, and is a member of the American Hospital Association (AHA).

Jani-King is the only commercial cleaning company to become an associate member of AHA, and to hold a Seal of Review and Recognition from AHA’s Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE).

The Seal recognizes that a company’s training or education program is a recognized resource for hospital environmental services and multi-disciplinary professionals. It is also a sign that a program is committed to excellence in professional practice.

Jani-King has had the Seal for eight years, and is recognized for training materials in hospital environmental services, healthcare operations, surgery area environmental services, outpatient environmental services, and ambulatory surgery procedures.

Jani-King has also been a corporate champion in the AHE for 15 years, with a sponsorship of more than $75,000 a year.

For more information visit the company’s web site here or contact account executive Paul Kusaba at

End of Life Planning

Healthcare professionals that help families with end of life planning have some options coming up in April.

These include a webinar series focusing on physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (or POLST), which starts on April 6 and runs through June. Also, National Healthcare Decisions Day this year transitions into a week-long series of events from April 16 - 22 focusing on end of life planning.

Both the webinar series and National Healthcare Decisions Day aim to help people understand the value of advance healthcare planning.

This is something hospitals do every day, and that’s why the American Hospital Association is again one of many sponsoring organizations of National Healthcare Decisions Day. Others include the American Bar Association, National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and many more.

The goal is to have every hospital, skilled nursing facility, community center, church and others help the public better understand advance directives and healthcare decisions. Visit www.nhdd.org for suggested activities, free materials and resources, public service announcements, sample op-eds, posters and graphics.

To register for the webinar series, which is offered for free through the National POLST Paradigm, click here.
