  • Congratulations to Gaithersburg Police Officer Michelle Kirk and Detective Robert Scire who were presented with Officer of the Year Awards and Sergeant Raymond Campbell who was presented with the Supervisor of the Year Award by Gaithersburg Police Chief Mark Sroka. Both Kirk and Scire were commended on their high quality and high volume of work. Sergeant Campbell was commended for providing active supervision that inspired motivation, outstanding shift performance and ensured constitutional policing. Way to Go!
  • Great News! Book Riot this month included the Gaithersburg Book Festival among its “Awesome Book Events in Every State.” To be included on this list, the event must be annual or biennial and held in the same state every year. The article only included events with a reader audience, as opposed to a writer audience. Preference was also granted to events with longer histories and more enthusiastic social media posts from attendees/authors. The Gaithersburg Book Festival will be on Saturday, May 20 - mark those calendars now!

  • The Fiscal Year 2018 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018) budget process is underway in Gaithersburg, and in advance of its Strategic Planning Retreat and budget deliberations, the Mayor and City Council are seeking public input. This year, in lieu of a Budget Public Forum meeting at City Hall, opinions on the City’s spending priorities are being solicited online. A five-question survey is available through January 27. Responses will then be reviewed and analyzed for consideration during the budget process. A Virtual Budget Forum page has been created at In addition to the survey, the page includes a basic overview of the City’s revenue and spending for the current fiscal year.
  • Are you registered? If your business provides goods, services and/or construction-related services that may be sought by the County, REGISTER in Montgomery County's Central Vendor Registration System (CVRS). LOCAL BUSINESSES - be sure to also complete the section that pops up saying "Your business may be eligible for the Montgomery County Local Small Business Reserve Program" to see if your business meets the LSBRP requirements. If so, register for access to the 20% of procurement dollars reserved for LSBRP-certified firms.
  • The Lunar New Year Celebration is happening now through February 5 at Lakeforest Mall. Enjoy spectacular decor and informational exhibits throughout the two week celebration.   • Montgomery County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard will host a series of five public forums to provide information, and seek input, on the programs and budgets of the County’s public school system and its community college.   • The City of Gaithersburg, in partnership with RIO Washingtonian Center, will host the 17th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 11.   • Montgomery College's Cultural Arts Center comes alive with the rich traditions and culture of Russia in Barynya (February 4) A troupe of three classically trained musicians and dancers perform an entertaining mix of music, dance, comedy and interactive storytelling. If you feel like enjoying the culture of another continent, Cirque Zuma Zuma (February 12 & 13) is described as an African-style Cirque du Soleil thanks to perpetual action by African acrobats, jugglers, vocalists, dancers - even some comedy.   • Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is holding the first of five budget forums the second week in January to seek input from residents about Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) Operating Budget priorities. The forum will begin at 7:00pm on Monday, January 30, BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown. The County Executive will announce his Recommended FY18 Operating Budget on March 15. The County Council approves the operating budget at the end of May.

Chamber Snow Policy 

The GGCC policy is as follow:
  • When the Montgomery County Schools are closed or there is a two-hour delay, all GGCC morning events and committee meetings are cancelled.
  • Any afternoon events or committee meetings will be decided upon by 8:00 am.
  • All evening events or committee meetings, will be decided upon by Noon.
Please note there are times that an event may be held or cancelled due to the sponsoring company’s policies and/or the discretion of the GGCC.
