  • Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy Ensemble presents Shel We Dance, a new short-length ballet based on the poetry of Shel Silverstein, at 2:00 pm on January 22, followed by fun activities for our young Shel Silverstein fans. Your children will delight in seeing the poetry of Shel Silverstein come alive in this new short-length, original contemporary ballet, and they get to meet the performers.Tickets are $15 per person, every attendee needs a ticket.   • The City of Gaithersburg is joining with Seneca Creek Community Church and Montgomery County Government to host a morning of service projects that will benefit the most vulnerable in our community on MLK Day of Service. More than a dozen projects suitable for a variety of ages and skill levels will be conducted at the church, located at 13 Firstfield Road in Gaithersburg, from 9-11:00 am on Monday, January 16. There are three additional satellite sites with a variety of volunteer opportunities.   • Are you an author, poet, publisher, non-profit or business relating to the book industry looking to expand your marketing efforts? If so, consider exhibiting at the 2017 Gaithersburg Book Festival. The 2017 exhibiting author and literary vendor applications will be available on the GBF website the first week of January. All applications must be submitted no later than March 20, 2017.
  • Comptroller Peter Franchot has announced he's accepting nominations for a new award paying tribute to business and nonprofit leaders and organizations that foster innovation in their fields.The "Bright Lights Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” will recognize and celebrate innovation in the private and nonprofit sectors that strengthen Maryland’s economy, generate jobs and tax revenue and develop new ideas that more effectively deliver services and products within the marketplace.Nominations will be accepted through January 31. One winner will be selected from each of Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City. Businesses or nonprofits of any size are eligible for the award. The nomination form, which can be found here, should detail how the candidate is transforming their industry through innovation and what future opportunities may exist to expand its application.
  • Thomas Wilbur, Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences l Class of 2015, was recently awarded the Eagle Scout honor from the Boy Scouts of America for his greenhouse planting stations. Thomas started scouting as a first grader at The Barnesville School. Now a sophomore in the Global Ecology Magnet Program at Poolesville High School, he received the Eagle Scout honor in December as part of Poolesville Scout Troop. For his Eagle Scout Project, Thomas conceived, designed, built, and installed planting stations for Barnesville's Middle School greenhouse. Great job! 

Chamber Snow Policy 

The GGCC follows the same policy as the Montgomery County Public Schools.

The policy is as follow:
  • When the County Schools are closed or there is a two-hour delay, all GGCC morning events and committee meetings are cancelled.
  • Any afternoon events or committee meetings will be decided upon by 8:00 am.
  • All evening events or committee meetings, will be decided upon by Noon.
Please note there are times that an event may be held or cancelled due to the sponsoring company’s policies and/or the discretion of the GGCC.

We will keep everyone apprised via our website and social media outlets if possible and as soon as we can. Thank you.

Take a Trip to Italy: Departing October 23

The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce invites members of the chamber and the community to experience the true Italy Culture October 23, 2017.

The GGCC will be offering a fully escorted tour of “Pompeii & the Amalfi Coast”. The Amalfi coast is a captivating combination of great beauty and griping drama: mountains dotted with picturesque towns and lush forests plunge into the sea. Mountains erupt from the waters of the Mediterranean and pastel-painted buildings cascade down cliffs.

Visit  Maioriare, Herculaancum, Pompeii, Paestum & Rome. Nine day, eight night excursion. $3,099 per person / $2,999 if deposited by January 31, 2017 (airfare, hotels and most meals included).
