WARC Newsletter September (the sequel) 2014

It's over

This is not a newsletter about how awesome the the season of 2014 was. It doesn't include overall Club results, or congratulatory notes for outstanding achievements both rowing (@nellsmells) and non-rowing (#thechad), or a list of the fines issued (obviously edited for public consumption.)

That will all come later, because we are still rolling on with things that need to be done.

(Also, re the picture: No I don't know who Danielle Sykes is, but I couldn't get the picture to crop. If anyone knows her, she might wanna go pick her stuff up from Bassendean...)

Specifically, I'm keeping this newsletter to important upcoming stuff, like:
For the diary:
  • Saturday, September 27: First TT
  • Wednesday, October 1: WARC AGM
  • Saturday, October 4: RWA awards
  • Thursday October 9: Racing starts at World Masters in the 'Rat. UWABC moves into WARC
  • Sunday October 12: Racing finishes at World Masters in the 'Rat
  • October 18-19: Head of the Charles
  • Friday October 24: WARC Annual Dinner
  • Sunday October 26: Second TT

New website

We have launched a new website. It's here, which is on our old URL. This means the blog, which has been a handy tool for distributing content over the past year, and our old site are both going out to pasture. This new swanky site includes a newsletter sign-up form, a place where people can "tell their WARC story" to collect tales of rowers past, and the blog has been brought across in its entirety. There's historical galleries and it has a lot more capacity to assist with the function side of our business. We hope you like it, please send feedback (and any typos spotted) to Huge thanks to Mike Smith who put the template together for us and answered all my annoying questions.

AGM and Boat Naming
Please don't lose concentration because the AGM also includes a boat naming and post-meeting drinks which is good. Next Wednesday we have scheduled:
  • Boat naming of the new fours
  • Election of officers
  • Voting on life member criteria
  • Captain's report
  • Post-meeting drinks at the Shag
To comply with our requirements under the constitution, an advertisement was placed in the West one week ahead of the event and you can see the names of all the nominees, and access the contitution, on our NEW BLOG here.

The Annual Dinner
Tickets for the annual dinner on October 24 are available now. We will be reviewing the season that was (likely to be pretty awesome thanks to Dean Neal's footage this year!) and the coveted captains' awards will be presented.

Tickets are $80 which includes a three-course sit-down meal.

Buy a ticket from Trybooking here.

Note: Trybooking will ask you to select a seat. The selection has no bearing on where you will sit, it's just a glitch in the program. So just select a seat so the program knows you want to attend and buy it.

Learn to row

Dates for the next round of Learn to Row programs have been set! We also have a spiffy new Learn to Row webpage and poster. You can download the poster and pin it up at work, or share the link on facebook to start getting the registrations rolling in. Check it out here.

That's it for this month! Any queries, concerns or general comments, flick me an email to

Copyright, for what it's worth, belongs to WARC except the stuff we've stolen from elsewhere. Apparently contact details are also supposed to go here, but frankly if you don't know where we're located, you're possibly subscribed to the wrong newsletter. Or you can call the President on 0428 923 661 or email if you need to know something. Cheers.
