Its time for Knit City! Oct. 4th & 5th, 2014!

Knit City 2014 is almost here!

This weekend, October 4th and 5th, 2014, Knit City will be taking place at the PNE Forum. We LOVE going to Knit City, and will once again have a booth in the marketplace - come visit us at Booth #25! Doors are open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

When you drop by our booth, don't forget to enter our draw for a cool yarn bowl handmade by Madeleine Coomey.

Follow the buzz on twitter (#knitcity2014), and remember to add #wetcoastwools to your Instagram photos to see them appear on our homepage.

To help make this year's event extra special, we have brought in a number of brand new items to feature in our booth. Read on for a preview of a few of these items!

Knitting Baskets by Water Willow Design

We are excited to introduce a new line of fabric knitting baskets, which are handmade by Mie Shimizu of Water Willow Designs. Based in Chelsea, Quebec, Mie makes the baskets from hand-screen printed linen, and lines them with printed cotton. The larger size (shown here) will hold 5-6 50g balls of yarn, and the smaller size will hold 2-3 balls.

The baskets come in a choice of blue, brown, grey, or olive, and are printed with either Queen Ann's lace (seen here) or a pair of birds. We only have a small selection for Knit City, so don't miss out!

Eco Llama from Illimani Yarn

Our good friends at Illimani Yarn have introduced a new yarn to their line! Eco Llama is a fingering weight yarn made from 100% un-dyed Baby Llama. As always, the llama is dehaired, making it as soft and luxurious as possible. Eco Llama comes in a range of 13 natural shades, including seven solids and six marls. The colourways range from off white all the way to a dark browny-black, highlighting all the natural colours of llama hair.

For those of you wanting something a little thicker, we will also be bringing a selection of our already popular Illimani Cadena I. This super-bulky yarn combines the softness of alpaca with a hint of merino wool for extra stability.  Two skeins quickly knit up into a cowl, perfect for holiday gift giving.
Footprints and Footlights Sock Yarn Kits

We are pleased to be selling two different sock yarn kits from Blue Ridge Yarns, a small hand dyer from Virginia.

Footlights, seen on the left, contains four 100 yard (91m) skeins of superwash merino sock yarn, each in a different colour. Although the intention is to use these in stripey socks, I think they have endless potential! Pair them with a complimentary solid, and they will make a great shawl! Or use them as-is to make a hat, cowl, or even a stripey baby sweater!

Footprints, seen here on the right, combines a 300 yard (275m) skein of hand-painted sock yarn with a 100 yarn skein in a semi-solid accent colour. Knit the body of your sock in the multi-colour, and the heel and toe in the solid, and you are sure to end up with a fantastic pair of socks! We have 24 Footprints kits, but each one is a different colourway - so stop by early for the best possible selection!

Rayures Cowl Kit

Rayures is a fun, stripey cowl designed by Amy Miller of Ready To Knit. I came across this cowl on Ravelry on the same day as we were unpacking our shipment of Elfin Tweed - perfect timing, really, because the yarn fits the pattern exactly!

With Amy's permission, we are now selling Rayures kits, featuring 25g balls of Elfin Tweed in each of seven different colours**, as well as a copy of the pattern. Pick one up, and you'll have a great new cowl to keep you warm this fall!

(**Colours in the kit are Garnet, Moss, Slate, Soleil, Amethyst, Fog, and Loch.)
