This includes the unveiling of an iconic sculpture for the Gaines Street renovation, produced by Master Craftsman, as well as exhibitions, workshops & performances.

ART

The opening of A Mysterious Clarity – 10th Anniversary took place on April 4th during First Friday at the 621 Gallery in Tallahassee’s Railroad Square Art Park. This exhibition revisited the original A Mysterious Clarity exhibition, first shown there in 2004.

ART EDUCATION

Amy Lee, a recent graduate of the Art Education program at Florida State University, was hired this year as an art teacher at Boyette Springs Elementary in Hillsborough County. Amy Lee was nominated the “Newbie Art Teacher of the Year” award.

ART HISTORY

Associate Professor Stephanie Leitch was awarded a COFRS grant for the summer of 2014 by the Council on Research and Creativity at FSU to research a book project about the visual rhetoric of observation in the print culture of early modern northern Europe.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Interior Design student lighting and furniture designs are currently being featured in the William Johnston Gallery on the FSU campus. The show, titled Designing for the Human Experience, focuses on designs that directly impact the human daily lived experiences.

DANCE

Each summer, the School of Dance hosts 60 young dancers (accepted by audition) to participate in a Summer Dance Intensive. This summer, the workshop is being held June 15th through 28th.

Darren Bagert

THEATRE

Darren Bagert is a Tony Award-winning Broadway producer currently behind the production Of Mice and Men and the recent production of The Glass Menagerie on Broadway, both of which have been nominated for multiple Tony Awards.

FACILITY FOR ARTS RESEARCH

FAR invites the public to attend the opening reception of Quarto: Four Years of Artists’ Books by Resident Artists at the Small Craft Advisory Press. This exhibit showcases the work of Elmer, Milham, Ray and Gorham.

ASOLO

Get your calendars out and plan to make your trip to Sarasota for the FSU/Asolo Conservatory season! The Conservatory’s season kicks off with David Mamet’s The Water Engine (Nov. 5-23).

MANCC

School of Dance graduate Emily Wolfe will receive a MANCC scholarship to continue working with MANCC Living Legacy Artist and MacArthur Fellow, Liz Lerman.

MASTER CRAFTSMAN STUDIO

MCS Director, Kenneth F. von Roenn, Jr. proposed the addition of a large scale sculpture as the centerpiece of both the roundabout and the renovation project of Gaines Street and Woodward Ave.

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

The Artists’ League Summer Annual Exhibition is currently being held in the Museum of Fine Arts in conjunction with the Tallahassee Watercolor Society exhibition, and will remain open until July 11th.

Barbara Ramsay, the new chief conservator at The Ringling brings almost four decades of experience in art conservation with a focus on managing, directing and carrying out complex conservation treatments on historic painted finishes and modern art objects.
