SS.CC. YAM GATHERING
March 19 marks the 150th Anniversary of St. Damien's first arrival to Honolulu.  EPIC Ministry will join with other young adults ministries within the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary for a special gathering.  Tentatively, there is a catamaran dinner cruise planned, so you won't want to miss this!  More details to be announced.
ALOHA BR. MAIKI
On February 28, Br. Maiki Kamauoha, ss.cc., headed to California to join with his community there and begin his new assignment.  Br. Maiki has been a strong supporter and member of EPIC Ministry and we wish him well in his new journey.

Br. Maiki, you will remain in our prayers...to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, glory and honor forever!
KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS!!!
Coming soon to EPIC Ministry...
From the Coordinator:
"Doing Lent"

Every year, I get asked the same question around this time: "what are you giving up for Lent?"  Jokingly, I normally respond, "I'm giving up Lent for Lent."

Jokes aside, over the past few years, I've become more and more intrigued by the question of what I'm "doing" for Lent as if Lent is something we just "do" once a year.

I'm sure most faithful Catholics, many of whom we are blessed to have as active members of this ministry, understand what Lent is about and why we give up things during Lent.  But sometimes, "doing Lent" takes precedence over "experiencing Lent."

You see, when someone asks what I'm going to do for Lent, the focus is on what my action is.  If I were to ask, "how do you hope to experience Lent this year," the focus is no longer on what I'm going to do, but rather, how this season of Lent will be a transformative experience for me.

So what am I giving up this year?  My answer is that I'm giving it all up to God.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.  For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
(Matthew 16:24-25)
Members of EPIC Ministry joined with other young adults for a weekend retreat last February 7-9 at St. Anthony Retreat Center with the theme, "Faith Seeking Understanding."  The retreat welcomed new members to our ministry and closer relationships to young adults from other ministries and parishes.  OLS Pastor, Fr. Richard McNally, ss.cc., also joined us for the first half of the retreat.  Overall, it was a very powerful experience, and we look forward to our next retreat tentatively scheduled for August in Hana, Maui.
LIVING STATIONS
EPIC Ministry will be collaborating with our OLS Youth Ministry to present the annual Living Stations on Friday, April 11, at 7:00 PM.  This moving production brings to life the Stations of the Cross through reenactment, music, and prayer.
LIVING STATIONS REHEARSAL DATES
  • Friday, March 14 at 7:45 PM
  • Friday, March 21 at 7:45 PM
  • Friday, March 28 at 7:45 PM
  • Friday, April 4 at 7:45 PM
This special production will also be featuring two of our own members: Ronald Calimpong is one of the actors, playing several roles in this production, and Nicole Sullivan will be stage directing in the background.

EPIC Ministry will be attending the show on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30pm, so if you would like to join us, please be sure to reserve your spot with Kainoa.
At last month's Community Night with ROL, we were blessed to hear a special presentation by CRS campus ambassador, Amber Alvarez, about the great things that Catholic Relief Services does especially in helping those who are most in need around the world.  This Lent, EPIC Ministry will be taking a much more proactive role in supporting CRS.  For more information about this incredible organization, see their website at CRS.org.
PRAYERS REQUESTED...
Please keep Bishop Larry Silva in your prayers as he continues to recuperate from a recent knee surgery.

Please keep Tina Cuyno, one of EPIC Ministry's Senior Advisers, in your prayers as she will be going through surgery this month.

May God's Spirit and healing power be upon them.

EPIC Ministry will be assisting with the music at this special Mass, so please save the date and participate!
