Friday Focus - Emeco Navy Chair 1006

Emeco doesn’t sound like the most inspiring of company names and it’s most famous chair is called the 1006 (also known as the Navy Chair).   But this is a design with some serious history to it!  During WW2 Emeco’s brief was to design a chair for the US Navy for use on its warships and it had to be strong enough for the occasionally less than careful sailors and survive a battle at sea.

The Navy chair delivered brilliantly, and the enduring design has become recognised as an American Design Icon. It is specified by the coolest interior designers, photographed for the edgiest magazines, and appears in TV shows.

The 77 step manufacturing process has remained unchanged since 1944. This involves twelve parts being welded together, then being ground to create a seamless one-piece look.

The Navy Chair is also surprisingly environmentally friendly as it is made out of 80% recycled aluminium & 100% of the aluminium waste produced is recycled.
Wellworking are delighted to offer this classic chair which works well in both private dining rooms or canteen areas alike.
