This month, we celebrate the fight for connection.  Thomas, one of The Cave of Adullam's recruits, passed his spirituality and physical initiation tests this April.  As called for in these initiation ceremonies, the father figures in his life were brought in to demonstrate their support for and commitment to Thomas.  The Yunion's founder and The Cave CEO, Jason Wilson, focused particular attention on Tommy, Thomas's biological father. This ceremony was a dedicated time for Tommy to speak directly to his son, to express his love for Thomas and his desire to fight for a relationship with his family.  After depleting his strength in the push-up exercise, Tommy was challenged to overcome Mr. Wilson in a fight for his family.  Mr. Wilson positioned himself between Tommy and Thomas, as well as Thomas's mother and sister.

After several attempts, Mr. Wilson asked Thomas to tell his father how much he needed himThomas spoke from a place of emotional freedom, with vulnerability and sensitivity. He told his father that at night, he prayed Tommy would be safe. He cried, and in this expression from the depths of his heart, he encouraged his father to fight. On Tommy's next attempt, he overcame Mr. Wilson. This exercise represents the spiritual battles fathers and families must fight every day.  Congratulations Thomas, and thank you Tommy for your will and resilience. We are continually blessed by the dedication and love demonstrated by the men of CATTA. If you haven't heard of the Juul, your child likely hasor will, very soon! The Juul is a new, sleek, USB-shaped e-cigarette that is taking youth culture by storm.  The e-liquid cartridges, called "Juul pods," come in flavors such as Mango, Cool Mint, and Fruit Medley, and each one contains roughly the same amount of nicotine as one pack of cigarettes.

According to The New York Times, "The glamorization of the cigarette took place over decades and throughout countless Hollywood movies and glossy ads. The Juul iconicity was birthed much faster: through social media."  Researchers are concerned about the rate of adoption amongst underage individuals, predicting that many more non-smoking youth will start using e-cigarettes now because they believe they are harmless.
Check out Buzzfeed's coverage for more detail on health threats and youth usage.

Take Away:  It is time to educate ourselves and our children about the less well understood but highly prevalent dangers of the Juul and e-cigarettes alike, namely nicotine addiction.  Open conversation is necessary to challenge the comedic, rebellious allure that is portrayed on social media.
