Thank you for joining the American Packrafting Association! Please encourage your friends and family to join us at www.packraft.org.
You and 231 other packrafters from across the country and around the world have joined the APA in our first month of existence. We may have to go international someday to represent our members in Russia, India, Japan, the UK, France, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Australia, Germany, Norway and even Montana!
It has been humbling to see the depth of talent and experience that you bring to packrafting and your enthusiasm for the American Packrafting Association. The comments and feedback tell us that there is a real need for this organization.
We have hit the water paddling, and are now involved with access and conservation issues in Grand Canyon, Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks. We have drafted a packrafter Code of Ethics and are working on a packrafting safety code.
On the APA website (www.packraft.org), we have expanded sections on the history of packrafting and packrafting in Grand Canyon, and are working on a page that discusses the management of packrafting on public lands. We recently unveiled our official APA logo and will shortly be producing APA stickers, ball caps and other swag.
Please let us know if there are conservation, education, safety, and access issues pertaining to packrafting that concern you, and we will do our best to address them. Also, please find us and “like” us on Facebook, and learn about our latest activity.
APA Executive Council Member Ryan Jordan and Backpacking Light recently announced a project to create a video series called “Learn to Packraft!” APA and Backpacking Light will collaborate to develop the content on packrafting safety, access, education and conservation. Ryan is raising funds for this project through Kickstarter, and we ask that you support this project. One of our immediate goals is to continue building the APA membership. We would like to represent at least 1,000 packrafters so that land managers see that packrafters are an organized force to be reckoned with. Please help us recruit new members to APA. It is still FREE and easy at www.packraft.org.
We will see you on the trails and on the water!
