Committee Updates

The Programming Committee is excited to announce some terrific events! Please look out for the Inter-Bar Mixer, panel on business marketing, beer tasting, CLE event, and much more. The 2nd Annual Inter-Bar Mixer will be held at Fado on April 23rd from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.. Thanks to Programming Committee member Lilia Kim for securing both the President of the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Charles Ruffin, and the Commercial Attaché to the Korean Consulate General, Mr. Min Woo Lee, to speak at the event! If you have ideas, feedback, or want to get involved with the Programming Committee, please reach out to Alina Lee at alee@rh-law.com or Sul Ah Kim at seulsk@gmail.com. We hope to see you soon!

The Membership Committee has been reaching out to the Korean community. With support from Matthew Pi and Hans Choe, hardworking Emory 3Ls, we identified over 70 new Korean-American attorneys working in Metro Atlanta. We sent out emails to them about KABA-GA and the upcoming events, and we received a number of responses from those who are interested. Please help us welcome new members when they join our next events! Later this year we will make a membership directory, given our need for referrals. We will try to reach out individually to current and potential members as well to learn about what our members do and get inputs on how we can promote KABA-GA.  MinJae Song, Membership Chair.

Member Spotlight

Mr. Park recently became Managing Partner of Paul Hastings in Atlanta.  Have news or suggestions for the member spotlight?  Email Sara Hamilton.

  1. What kind of law do you practice?
I focus mainly on intellectual property matters, including patent, trade secret, and unfair competition litigation as well as licensing negotiations.
  1. You recently became managing partner for the Atlanta office, a role very few APA attorneys hold.  Why were you interested in this and how did you manage to achieve it?
I have always been interested in the business side of the legal practice.  And coming from an IP boutique, I wanted to learn more about Paul Hastings’s other practice areas.  My role affords me the opportunity to do both.  At the risk of sounding like a pro athlete, I attribute my career achievements to God’s providence.
  1. What advice would you have for young Korean attorneys and law students?
Always treat others how you want to be treated.  Don’t kiss up to people above you or talk down to people below you.  Help people however you can without expecting anything in return.  Understand your clients’ business and always put their interest before yours.  Don’t just learn the law, understand the purpose behind it.
  1. Do you ever get confused with the Steve Park at Nelson Mullins?
It is a common name, but I can’t say that I’ve ever been confused for that particular Steve Park.  I have, however, been confused for Jackie Chan, “the guy from Lost,” Jet Li, Short Round, Mr. Miyagi, and the NASCAR driver.   It’s fun living in the South.  :)
  1. What’s your secret late night Korean food craving?
Grilled BBQ pork, crispy on the edges.
