Regulatory Changes for J-Exchange Visitors

The U.S. Department of State published updated regulations that affect J-1 and J-2 exchange visitors. Changes will be implemented in two phases, starting today, January 5, 2015.

  • Report a J-1 phone number and email address here.
  • Report a J-2 spouse or child email address here.

Tax Season Around the Corner
U.S. Federal and State taxes are due by April 15, 2015. The ISSO will distribute tax resources in February. Please note that ISSO Advisers are legally unable to provide tax advice.

ISSO Volunteer Meeting
Thursday, January 22nd, 6 - 7:30 p.m., The Pub, 1675 Owens St, Mission Bay
Are you interested in meeting new international friends? Do you enjoy planning fun events? Join the ISSO volunteer team! This quaint and informal international group meets monthly to plan potlucks, holiday celebrations, game nights and other great activities for our international community. Richmond District Food Tour
Saturday, January 17th, 12 p.m. - 3 p.m., Meet in front of Richmond Library, 351 9th Street, SF
Eat your way through the culinary highlights of Clement Street that includes dim sum, banh mi and Japanese snacks. On the way to Golden Gate Park, we'll stop at Cinderella's Russian Bakery. We'll then bring our delicious treats to the Music Concourse to enjoy lunch. Bring cash! Led by ISSO Intern (and longtime Inner Richmond resident), Julia.

San Francisco Bike Tour
Sunday, January 25, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., (Meet at Ferry Building Bike Rentals, 1 Sausalito, SF Ferry Building)
Join ISSO's bicycle super-duo Kevin and Russell in a leisurely pedal-and-picnic around San Francisco! We'll meet at the SF ferry terminal and cycle along the bay front to Chrissy Field. Then we'll bike through the Presidio, where we'll enjoy lunch at Beach Chalet. After lunch, we'll bike to the top of Golden Gate Park, where people can then pedal to their own destinations! Bring your bike, or rent one at the Ferry Building for $30. Bring cash for lunch.

J-1 Scholar Orientation
Thursday, January 8th, 12-2 p.m., Rock Hall 102, Pottruck Auditorium, Mission Bay
J-1 immigration regulations mandate that all new J-1 visa holders attend orientation. Learn about traveling during your program, employment and reimbursement policies, and extending. Hosted by Kevin Long, International Student & Scholar Adviser. Bring your passport and your DS-2019.


H-1B Scholar Orientation
Tuesday, January 20th, 12-1 p.m., ISSO Conference Room, 1675 Owens St, CC-290, Mission Bay
All recent UCSF H-1B holders are required to attend an H-1B orientation. Learn about traveling while on H-1B status, how to apply for an H-1B visa and how to maintain status. Hosted by Chris Flores, H-1B Adviser.
