I feel inspired to share with you some of the primary self care practices in my life which I know have provided me with many body-mind-spirit benefits. There are four that I am choosing to list today and I’ll provide some resources for you to read more on each. These four are fasting,  Earthing, body prayer and (a modification of) sun-gazing.

A dear friend recently shared an article with me based on a NASA study of sun-gazing, the practice of gazing into sunrises and/or sunsets on a daily basis to heal body-mind-spirit through Solar Energy. Most people mistakenly believe that looking at the sun any time will damage the retina. Not true! I’ve been watching sunrises and sunsets directly for years and my vision is normal for someone my age. I especially love sunrise, during which time I maintain contact with the sun for up to 20 minutes. There are no damaging UV rays during the hour before sunset and after sunset. (This is documented research and can easily be noted on your internet weather program under the category UV.) I gaze upon the sunrise while barefoot to the earth (Earthing) and engaged in body prayer (eurythmy). Here is the link on the NASA study about sun-gazing along with two additional very interesting You-tubes of a young man currently studying himself during the sungazing protocol. Sun gazing can lead to not only body-mind healing, but to the ability to go without food for extended periods of time (The man NASA studied was kept on 24 hour observation for 100 days and only had water or a bit of buttermilk occasionally). Read this fascinating and eye-opening reader-friendly science report, which also refers to the spiritual benefits of sun gazing!

Here is the link on Earthing which many of you already know about.  You can easily start this practice in your life today! When I used to spend three days a week with Janet Mentgen nine and ten years ago, we regularly practiced Earthing together at her house. We initially learned this practice from James Oschman, PhD, well known scientist and friend who is known for his research on the scientific basis of energy medicine.

Here is a link to my recent training and practice videos on body prayer.  These twenty-five and ten minute videos are my humble offering of sharing a practice that I started to slowly bring into my life about twenty years ago. Though I don’t have formal training in eurythmy, it has become a daily spiritual practice for me which I feel has reaped many benefits. These videos will give you a friendly introduction that easily corresponds with Healing Touch. The HT community has expressed growing interest in body prayer and I have presented this topic to HT audiences and have more invitations to do.

Lastly is the practice of fasting. I typically fast for a week each spring or summer using the Master Cleanse protocol. In addition, I add a daily coffee enema which helps the liver to release the huge amount of toxins it gets overtaxed with, which can lead to headaches and other symptoms. After fasting, one can lose unhealthy cravings for food, such as sugar, which is another great benefit! I just completed a second week long fast this season y and I feel yesterday and I feel wonderful! Over the years, from realizing the benefits, my body is so happy that I am fasting that I don’t even experience hunger, only an occasional mild desire for food, which is usually associated with an emotion. Not only does fasting support your body, but it clears your emotions and thinking, and facilitates your spiritual connection. On top of that, there’s the benefit of not having to deal with shopping, cooking and cleaning up!

I hope those of you in the Northern Hemisphere are enjoying a wonderful summer! I especially love the freedom I experience from wearing fewer clothes and being able to feel the sun, wind and rain against my skin. Being in nature is truly healing and is one of the most easy and vital ways to deepen your connection and devotion to Spirit.

Healing Touch Meditations: Guided Practices to Awaken Healing Energy for Yourself and Others

Cynthia Hutchison, Program Director for Healing Touch Program, created a new set of Healing Touch Meditation CDs in 2011 through Sounds True, a well known publications company focused on spiritual and holistic education products. Healing Touch Meditations One

The first, Basic Centering, Grounding and Attuning, can be used as a meditation to learn foundations that one practices for both self care and self healing. It can also be helpful to practitioners as a preparation for providing healing work for others.The second meditation, The Self Chakra Connection, is an adaptation of the work of Brugh Joy, MD, from his book Joy’s Way (1979). Healing Touch Meditations Two
This Audio CD offers healing meditations that are taught in Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the Healing Touch Program’s world wide standardized curriculum.

The Self Spiral Meditation, an adaptation of the work of Brugh Joy, M.D., friend and colleague of Janet Mentgen, can be used for self care of the practitioner and for teaching to clients, as well as for those interested in self healing and health promotion practices.

The Hara Alignment Meditation, an adaptation of Barbara Brennan’s teachings from Hands Of Light (1987) and Light Emerging (1993) is offered as the second track for care, healing and practitioner preparation.

The Etheric Vitality Meditation, an adaptation of the teachings from Doscolos and referred to in the Homage to the Sun (1987) by Kyriacos Markides, is the final offering that may be used for self care and healing, practitioner preparation or client treatment. To read more or purchase click here.

Upcoming Events

SHADOWCLIFF RETREAT IN GRAND LAKE, CO, RESCHEDULED FOR JUNE 14-17, 2014.
The next HT Shadowcliff retreat will take place on June 14-17, 2014 at Shadowcliff Retreat Center, Grand Lake, CO. There is an optional extra day planned for anyone interested in more personal or social time in this pristine Rocky Mountain center which overlooks Grand Lake. This was the place where Janet Mentgen was first inspired to create HT in the 1980s.

An OPTIONAL extra day (18th) for self care or group sharing is available for interested persons.

The focus on this retreat will be on exploring individual and collective spiritual growth and development as seekers and as Healing Touch practitioners. Level 3 HT students and beyond may sign up for this combined experience of group sharing and individual time The formal schedule will be determined in the fall.
