Provincial interest in developing a campaign to raise awareness and eliminate stigma against those experiencing psychological and mental health distress at BC post-secondary institutions emerged at the Healthy Minds/Healthy Campuses Summit in 2010. Since then, a SFU led committee made up of members from many post-secondary institutions across BC has been working together to put ideas into action!

Logo Design Contest

Health and Counselling Services at SFU has taken the lead with this initiative and organized a province-wide logo design contest open to all BC post-secondary students.
The hope is that the winning logo will represent the spirit and positivity of the anti-stigma campaign and that this logo will become recognizable on campuses throughout BC as a symbol of support for those experiencing psychological and mental health distress.
To learn more about the contest, view the poster or visit the website page.

Top 4 Entries

A committee at SFU narrowed down the logo entries to the top 4 and have created an album on Facebook to invite comments from students across BC.

Visit the album on Facebook to see what other students are saying and share your thoughts this week!

Spirit of the Campaign

A core aim of this campaign (which will be rolled out Fall 2013 at all interested campuses across BC) will be to encourage, educate, and inspire open conversation about mental health and invite kindness and friendship towards anyone experiencing mental health issues. In addition, the campaign hopes to end stigma that may prevent individuals with mental health issues from accessing help and to foster a culture of understanding, dialogue, friendship and support. This campaign goes beyond challenging stigma, it promotes: kindness, conversation, friendship, and treating everyone with respect.

As a component of the anti-stigma campaign, people will be invited to take a pledge based on the following principles:

ive kindness
Invite Conversation
Be a Friend
Treat everyone with Respect
