Walk on Wales

God's Own Country....

The past six days have seen the walkers progress from Whitesands Bay to Freshwater West, ably led by Mal Davies and Team 8 with Steve Liversage, Kevin Williams and Andrew Raison. The autumn sun continues to shine, casting a glorious glow on the breathtaking Pembrokeshire coastline, this really must be God's Own Country! The walkers have traversed some very remote sections of the coastline with little more company than that of their fellow walkers, seals and dolphins; Jan, Rod, Chris and Alison look fitter, healthier and slimmer by the week and continue to enjoy the pleasure of great company of all those who walk with them. The baton now passes to Rob Davies and Team 9 to carry onwards to Burry Port.

A Million Thanks....

To our sponsors this week: Fisher Partnership, Milford Haven Port Authority, RWE npower and Valero for their generous sponsorship, including the much appreciated tea and coffee that Valero supplied at the start of the day in Pwllcrochan.  Special thanks also to the Pembrokeshire Castle Trust for providing lunch for all the walkers, to the Griffin Inn, Dale and the Ferry House Inn, Llanstadwell for the much appreciated coffees, teas and bacon sandwiches.

We would also like to apologise for inserting an incorrect link in the previous Newsletter when thanking Andrew Davies for the wonderful accommodation he provided for the walkers at Lanlas Country Cottages.  Sorry Andrew!

Good to See...

We were delighted to welcome the family of LCpl Lee Davies who joined the Walk on 10 October from Lower Solva to St Brides, the baton was carried for the day by his sister, Carina. We also had a strong turnout from members of 14 Signal Regiment and on Friday and Saturday WOW went international as we were joined by friends and family from Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany and Rosie from Brazil, who came to lend her support having completed the walk round the coastal path earlier this year!

Thank You, Bluestone

Our walkers will be very sad to leave Bluestone this weekend where they have been staying for the past week. On behalf of all the WOW team we would like to say a very special thank you to William McNamara and Liz Wheden for not only making this possible, but most importantly for understanding what the Walk is truly about and for supporting us on our journey.  Thank you also to all their wonderful staff for their help and kindness and for looking after all the walkers so well during their stay.

Barclays Bank

We are thrilled that the Swansea and West Wales Area branches of Barclays Bank are supporting Walk on Wales.  During the next couple of weeks we look forward to welcoming employees from their branches in the Swansea and West Wales Area who will be joining the Walk and are very grateful to the Bank who have pledged to match every £1 raised by their employees.

And on to Team 9

Team 9 is being led by Rob Davies (ex Welsh Guards) who joined the Battalion in 1985. Joining him in his team are Julia Creaser (ex WRAC), Dennis O'Connor (TA) and Billy Shaw (ex RAMC). They will set off tomorrow morning from Freshwater West and lead the walkers to Burry Port.

Thanks to the Admin Team...

We thought it about time that we said a special thank you to our wonderful Admin Team: Matt, Dominic, Byron, Rob, Jimmy and Dave for tirelessly fetching and carrying our walkers and for being there just in time with snacks and water when needed most - and always with a smile!  Thank you guys for doing such a great job, we wouldn't be able to do it without you.

Cardiff Dinner Friday 8 November

All 460 tickets are now sold out for the final WOW dinner in Cardiff on Friday 8 November, amazing!  Dominic Lonergan, who is organising the dinner, has asked if anyone going to the dinner is vegetarian could they please email him at to let him know so that he can inform the caterers. Thank you.
