Walk on Wales

Wild in West Wales...

As we bid farewell to West Wales and walk onwards towards Pembrokeshire, we will take with us great memories of amazing beaches, stunning mountain scenery and generous hospitality from every town and village that the walkers passed through. Andrew Speed, Giles Harris and Marcus Monaghan led the walkers down the 93 mile stretch from Shell Island to New Quay where they handed over over the baton to Jim Salmon and Team 7.

A Million Thanks....

Special thanks to the Castle Hotel and the Harbourmaster Hotel in Aberaeron, the Plas Morfa Hotel at Llanon and the Black Lion at Llanrhystud who so generously fed and watered the walkers as they passed through.  Thanks also to the White Lion in Machynlleth for holding a quiz night in aid of WOW.  And finally a big thank you to the Tywyn Surf Shop for not only making a donation to Walk on Wales, but also for lending Giles Harris a wetsuit and a surf board so he could ride the breakers on Tywyn beach!

Over to Team 7

Team 7 is led by Jim Salmon who joined 1 Bn WG in Berlin in 1978.  Joining Jim's team are Paddy Dewaine and Andrew Davies, both ex-Welsh Guardsmen, and Les Owen a friend of Jim's who is a fire fighter for the Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service.  On this Stage we will be remembering  Gdsm Nigel Rowberry, LCpl B Bullers, Gdsm Ian Dale, Maj James Stenner, Sgt S Bennet and Sgt Pez Thomas.

The Younger Generation

It was great to have the company of so many local school children during Stage 6.  We held our drum head service with the pupils at Ysgol Friog, Fairbourne; the pupils of Ysgol Craig y Deryn came to walk with us from Tywyn to Aberdovey and girls from the PRU in Ceredigion also joined the Walk. We were also delighted to see so many local ACF and OTC cadets taking part.

Are You Coming to the Grand Finale?

The final day of the Walk on 2 November is fast approaching and we are planning on finishing in style!  The Band of the Welsh Guards will lead the walkers into Cardiff Bay and details of the homecoming are being finalised as we write..... Could everyone who intends to walk that day please register on the website so that we can gain an accurate idea of numbers. Thank you!
