A Fond Farewell to Pembrokeshire

As we say a fond farewell to Pembrokeshire, the finish line draws ever closer.....only 9.5 walking days to go! Rob Davies and his fantastic Team 9 led the walkers from Freshwater West to Burry Port, although sadly depleted by the loss of Dennis who suffered a badly sprained ankle on the second day of this Stage.  We wish him a speedy recovery! Every day of Stage 9 was very well attended with the numbers of walkers steadily increasing as we draw closer to Cardiff.

Team 10

Having conceived the idea behind Walk on Wales, finally the day has arrived when Dai Graham gets to don his walking boots and lead Team 10 with his team mates Adrian Hinder, Ernie (Ian) Whitehouse and Brian Elliot.  Dai and his team will lead the walkers from Burry Port to Porthcawl and we are all looking forward to walking with them.

Kids Can Do

Congratulations to all the children and families of 1 Bn Welsh Guards for holding their own 'Walk on Wales' in Hounslow where the Battalion are currently based.  The children were desperate to take part, so Sue Bazan came up with idea of creating their own event. On the day, the children arrived in their walking boots and jazzy T-shirts clutching their sponsor forms. It was an inspired idea and the children had great fun, with games and presentation of certificates, golden cups and, of course, sweeties! (Don't tell our walkers, or they'll all want the same!) On behalf of all of us, thank you Sue and all the children and families who took part.

Thanks a Million...

Firstly, a big thank you to our day sponsors Schoolhouse Daycare and Llanelli Rural Council for their generous sponsorship.  Thank you also to the Longhouse Bar at Freshwater East; the Pirate Cafe, Amroth; the Harbour Cafe, Tenby; the Point Cafe, Pendine; St Clears Boating Club; the Castle Inn, Llansteffan and the kind ladies of St Mary's church, Kidwelly for the much appreciated food and refreshments they supplied to the walkers to sustain them on their journey.

Good to See...

We were delighted to welcome Diane Ward, wife of LCpl Frank Ward;  Ray Poole, father of Gdsm Gareth Poole and the family of Gdsm Chris Thomas all of whom came and walked with us.  As always, it was also great to see so many old friends walking with us who had come from near and far.  Thank you all for supporting us.

RFA Sir Galahad Memorial

As the walkers passed through Tenby during the walk from Freshwater East to Saundersfoot, they paused to pay their respects at the memorial to RFA Sir Galahad in the Lifeboat Station. This was a very poignant and special moment for Ray and all the walkers as we left the memorial cross to Gareth under the original lifebelt from the Sir Galahad.

We are all deeply grateful to Ray for all the wonderful work he does for those who have connections to the Falklands and the wider community.

National Botanic Garden of Wales

We are very grateful to the National Botanic Garden of Wales for their generous support of Walk on Wales and it was therefore a great pleasure for the walkers to have the opportunity to visit the garden on Tuesday.  They were welcomed by Gareth Edwards and the garden's Director, Dr Rosie Plummer.

Forthcoming Events

Blanco's in Port Talbot will be holding an evening of live entertainment for the walkers and guests on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 October.  On both Sunday and Monday the entertainment will start at 4pm at the end of the Walk and will be open to everyone, whether you have walked or not! There will be a £5 entry fee which will be donated to WOW.

Last Call for 2 November

With only 10 days to go until we arrive back in Cardiff, please make sure that you have registered if you intend to walk with us that day.  Thank you to all of you have already done so, but we are sure there are lots more who haven't! So please register as soon as possible so that we have an accurate idea of numbers.
