Walk on Wales

Now here come the girls...!

The walkers were proudly led round the Gower from Burry Port to Porthcawl by co-founder Dai Graham and his terrific Team 10 of Adrian Hinder, Ernie Whitehouse and Brian Elliot.  The final exhange of the baton has now taken place and our one and only team of girls, led by Sam Bossi and her Team 11 will lead all the walkers to the finish line in Cardiff Bay on Saturday. Walkers have been turning out en masse in support of Walk on Wales for the past few days and numbers are certain to keep on growing as we approach the finish and a triumphant end to the Walk on Saturday.

Team 11

When we suggested to Dai last year that we should have at least one team of girls, he thought we were joking! We were therefore thrilled when the current Commanding Officer's wife, Sam Bossi agreed to be Team Leader of Team 11. Sam and her team of Rebecca Gallimore, Leanne Peters and Dawn Lawman will lead the walkers along the final 46 miles of the coastal path from Porthcawl to Cardiff Bay to the end of this extraordinary journey.

Thanks a Million....

Where do we start...  Thank you to the Lewis Arms, Loughor, the White House, Llandymor, Three Cliffs Cafe and the Twelve Knights, Margam for sustaining all the walkers along their journey with food and cups of tea and coffee. Thank you also to Borfa House, Port Eyon and Rhossili Bunkhouse for providing accommodation for our teams.  Most importantly, a huge thank you to Mick and Tracy Parker of the Towers Hotel Group who not only accommodated our team of walkers at both the Towers Hotel and Blanco's, but also provided much appreciated hot soup and rolls for over 140 walkers on Sunday following their drenching along Swansea seafront during the prelude to Storm St Jude!

Thank You to our Sponsors...

A big thank you to our Day Sponsors during Stage 10: Specsavers, Llanelli, Richard Davies Investor Relations Ltd and Schoolhouse Daycare. It was great to have so many of the Schoolhouse Daycare girls walking with us, especially Rod's daughter Mandy, and we would like to particularly thank them for the event they held in aid of WOW on Friday night in Swansea. Thanks also to Kew Occasionals RFC, it was great to see so many of you walking with us. Jan was particularly grateful for the fantastic support from his old rugby club, KORFC, it was a tremendous effort by all who made the journey from London to Wales to be with us.

Good to See...

During Stage 10 we remembered Gdsm David Thomas, Gdsm James Weaver, Gdsm Brian jasper, LCpl Phil Sweet, LCpl Dane Elson and Gdsm Ray Thomas.  We were very pleased to welcome Phil Sweet's sisters and Dane Elson's family and members of his Platoon who served with him. And, as with all previous Stages of the Walk, it was great to see so many old friends and family joining the Walk and supporting us.

WOW Goes to No 10

When Dai received a telephone call from the office at Number 10, he thought it was a hoax! But Walk on Wales had been nominated by the Welsh Government to attend a reception given by the Prime Minister to celebrate the great work we are doing to support the Armed Forces Community. Fortunately the reception was on a Tuesday which is our day off, so Jan and Dai went up to London proudly wearing their WOW jackets carrying their walking sticks and the baton, to meet the Prime Minister. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better!

The Final Day

We will all meet on Saturday at the Captain's Wife in Sully at 9am. Parking is very restricted so we would recommend that everyone either makes arrangements to get a lift or come by bus on the 94 bus route from Cardiff City Centre to Sully.  Alternatively, parking is available at Cosmeston Country Park which is approximately 1.5 miles from the start. There will be a reception in Cardiff Bay at the end of the walk for all the walkers. See you there!
