Gosh how time flies, it seems like only yesterday that Jan told me about the madcap plan to walk the Welsh Coast Path to raise £1 million for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal and Combat Stress. And now it seems that the wait is over. This Sunday, 25 August, following a service at Llandaff Cathedral Jan, Rod and Team 1, led by Paul Conlon with Andy Hunter and Derry Price will set off from the steps of the Senedd at 14:00.
Stage 1 is being sponsored by Brewin Dolphin and David Myrddin-Evans from Brewin's Cardiff Office joined Dai and Paul recently at the Senedd. The team at Walk on Wales would like to thank all their partners and sponsors for their invaluable support - visit the sponsor us page of the website to see who our supporters are. It would be remiss too not to mention the team behind the walk, all of whom have given up hours of their time to set the walk up especially:
without their support and the support of many others - the team leaders, their teams, the walkers, our bucket shakers are just a few more I should mention - we would not be where we are today.
Rob Nicholls and David Price - who have been tirelessly working to pull together all the logistics
John Warburton-Lee - who has headed up sponsorship
Fiona (Mrs Koops) and Hywel (Dai Graham's son) who have been coordinating all the admin
So, Sunday... the first day's walk is just over 9 miles, from Cardiff Bay to Peterstone Wentlooge and we would be delighted if you would come and join us. The timetable for events is as follows:
11:00-12:15 Service at Llandaff Cathedral (open to everyone)
11:30-14:00 Registration and reception at the Senedd. Walkers must register at the WOW gazebo before starting the walk.
14:00 Walkers depart from the steps of the Senedd, Cardiff Bay
In memoriam: the walk is commemorating all the Welsh Guardsmen who have died in active service since World War II. In this stage, we will remember:
Sgt C N Elley (25 August)
Gdsm C C Parsons (26 August)
LSgt K Keoghane (27 August)
Gdsm G M Griffiths (28 August)
Come along on Sunday to cheer us along, or else we will see you along the route.
The list of subscribed walkers and supporters keeps on growing with individual walkers signing up alongside football and rugby clubs, schools as well as many veteran and serving military personnel. Click here for the list of everyone who has registered via the website. If you know of people who are intending to walk but haven't yet signed up can you encourage them to do so. And if you want to make contact with someone on the list, please email email@example.com and we will put you in touch.
