Newsletter No 7 - Counting Down the Days

We're counting down the days and hours now until Jan, Rod and Team 1 set off from the steps of the Senedd. And boy, is momentum growing. Here is the team at the Royal Welsh Show, with Barry the WOW monkey and one of our new branded vehicles. We're also getting some fabulous support from the Welsh media, with appearances on a number of Welsh radio channels and as well as some fabulous newspaper coverage. Read on for further news about this and all the fundraising efforts going on around Wales.

We are delighted that we now have sponsors for five of the Stages, but we do need to secure more. Primary School Pupils raise over £300 for Walk on Wales

Thank you to the pupils at Barkers Lane Primary School in Wrexham who raised more than £300 by taking part in a Non-School Uniform Day and buying wristbands for £2 instead of their usual £1 that they pay to take part.  Chris Hopkins went along to collect the cheque and to thank the pupils personally for their fundraising efforts. Read all about this in the News North Wales.

Walk on Wales on the Catwalk

Jim Salmon and friends had a fabulous night on 19th July, when local retailer Window on Wales held a fashion show at Ty’r Pererin, St Davids Pembrokeshire. The local community came together and raised £623 for the cause.

On the night our local models showed off the great fashion stocked by Window on Wales, which includes outdoor clothing and walking gear and we enjoyed a drink or two as our models strolled down the catwalk. A raffle and sale of wristbands helped us with our fundraising.

Thanks to Window on Wales and Ty’r Pererin who organized the whole evening on our behalf.

In the media

As the days countdown so the media coverage is picking up. We have appeared on a number of Welsh Radio stations, including the Jason Mohammad show. We have also had some great coverage in Soldier Magazine (page 12) and most recently this piece in the South Wales Evening Post on Rod's fundraising and training. Well done Rod, I just hope that Jan will be fit enough to keep up with you!
