Best Practices Series

Adapting Mathematics instruction, strategies and supports to ensure that students continue to build vital problem-solving, critical-thinking and reasoning skills whether they are learning remotely or through hybrid instruction is just one of the many challenges teachers are overcoming this year. 

The CCIU's new Mathematics series and workshops are focused on providing teachers with the instructional strategies, resources and practical solutions they need to create engaging, online or in-person learning environments where all students can thrive.


All CCIU professional learning opportunities listed below will be held virtually. 
Making Math Make Sense
Facilitator: Greg Tang
Date: Tuesday, November 17

This workshop for teachers of grades 1-6 focuses on crucial grade-level concepts and adapting instruction for visual and virtual learning.

Teachers will learn tips for modeling concepts, leading math talks and structuring lessons, and which concrete, pictorial and abstract models help students most.

This workshop, designed for middle school and high school general mathematics teachers, specialists, special education staff and instructional aides, will explore:
  • Practical ways to increase struggling students' success in mathematics
  • Proven techniques to break the often-experienced cycle of failure of students struggling in mathematics 
  • Strategies to help students tackle tough math problems with greater confidence

to Maximize Mathematical Learning

Dr. Riccomini's three-day, interactive series provides teachers with effective strategies for organizing instruction and maximizing all students' mathematical performance to facilitate the learning, memory and application of critical mathematical concepts and skills in new situations.
