As the closest astronomical body to us, the Moon has a powerful influence on us as spiritual bodies.  The moon has an influence on life and Earth processes/ cycles. The Moon controls the tides and rules over the biological rhythms of plant, animal, and human life, this is because of the gravity forces between Earth and moon.  Three main ways in which the Moon impacts on life: time, tides and light. Scientists continue to study how the moon influences various physiological and psychological systems. 

7 Ways The Moon May Affect Your
Physical & Mental Health:

  • Heart/ Cardiovascular Health- Research found that when exercising, your heart is at its peak performance during a full and new Moon. The gravitational pull of the moon may have effects on the fluid compartments of the human body and hence the cardiovascular system may be affected differentially in the different phases of the lunar month.
  • Brain- Much like the Moon is responsible for tidal forces, our brains are a significant source of water, researchers hypothesize the Moon’s gravitational pull could similarly have an effect on your brain which can affect your mood, behaviour, heighten emotions & intensify thoughts.
  • Kidneys-  The kidneys, like other organs and the human body itself, are made up of about 60 percent water, and just as lunar activity can affect our oceans, creating powerful and predictable tides, the Moon may affect the workings of these organs, causing a flow in times of calm and pain. 
  • Sleep- The lunar cycle seems to influence human sleep, even when one does not see the Moon and is not aware of the actual moon phase,  humans are naturally attuned to the moon's cycles.
  • Menstrual-Moon Cycle-  A synchronous relationship between the menstrual cycle and lunar rhythm;  Affecting certain body processes impacted by light exposure, such as the production of the hormone melatonin. Through the perspective change that comes from understanding how the menstrual cycle is reflected in the cycles of nature, and especially the moon.  
  • Fertility/ Increased Birth Rate-   Significant increase in the number of births when the gravitation of the Moon to the Earth was most powerful. Paying attention to your cycles and knowing that mid cycle or biological ovulation is the prime time to fall pregnant in. Moon can also trigger ovulation and bring on fertility at any time during the menstrual cycle, it all depends on what phase the moon was at when you were born and the time each month when the moon returns to the phase it was in at your birth.  
  • Injuries/ Trauma-   The added effects of barometric pressure and gravitational forces upon fluids in our body, plus the ratio of positive to negative ions in our environment. A possible influence of the lunar phases on the frequency of accidents,  is still being seriously examined & studied repeatedly by researchers. 
Each phase of the Moon’s cycle has a unique visual characteristic and spiritual meaning. Her cyclical course also signifies the rhythm of life within us.

Once we are attuned to the Moon, we can activate her innate powers and embody her innate qualities of fluidity, creativity, femininity, and change.

The moon also represents our deepest personal needs. We can use the knowledge and energy of the Moon’s cycle to better connect to ourselves.

Moon Phases
 The Full Moon offers the most profound energies that we can absorb, while the New Moon is the next most powerful energy.

The Moon’s cycle is 29.5 days and it represents a full life-cycle. Each phase of the Moon has a different meaning and rhythm to the body.

Moon phases show us how the Moon affects the ebb and flow of our entire existence. Once we are attuned to the Moon and her cycles, we can activate her innate powers and embody her distinctively powerful attributes.

The Moon Salutation, known in Sanskrit as “Chandra Namaskara”
(SHAHN-drah nah-muh-SKAR-uh), is a series of poses performed in a particular sequence to create a cooling flow of movement. Like the popular Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara), each pose in a Moon Salutation is coordinated with your breathing: Inhale to extend, and exhale to bend. But unlike Sun Salutations, which are heating and stimulating, Moon Salutations are cooling and quieting. They are used to calm the mind and draw your awareness inward. Moon Salutations are useful when energy or temperatures are high and a tranquil, quiet presence is required.

Lunar Yoga honors the natural cycle of the moon. It is an immersive experience, bringing together yoga poses and ritual with the essence of the lunar phase.these classes interweave and reflect the energy and intentions of the moon as well as the current season and astrological insights.  Harness the power of the moon and manifest your highest calling!

Cedar Wellness Studio Lunar Yoga Class: This class will be a 30 minute flow with breath work to start followed by our moon flow ending by getting the body ready for a restful sleep. Connecting with the phases of the moon can bring awareness to other cycles and rhythms within your own body, mind, heart, and spirit.
