We pay tribute to Carol Dall’Osto
For some time the committee has been working on a succession plan which included finding a replacement for long standing Competition Director, Carol Dall’Osto. A successful replacement has now been found and Carol has stepped down from the role to allow the new appointment. We pay tribute to Carol in acknowledgement of 35 years’ dedication to the mission of ACVC. Carol’s involvement began with an association with the founder of the Competition, the late Dr Bill Williams OBE in 1980 and as a competitor in 1982. She has served on the committee since the start of the competition and was President and Competition Director from 1991 to 2014. Carol is pleased with the appointment of her replacement and is confident that the competition will have a bright future under her guidance. Carol continues her involvement as a member of the committee.
Appointment of new Competition Director
Congratulations to Katy Frewen-Lord. Having come to the committee’s notice from her involvement with the AFCM and the music scene in Townsville, Katy was invited to join the committee last May. As well as bringing her enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to the committee table, Katy worked alongside Carol Dall’Osto and Production Manager Judy Hunter during the 2015 competition with this appointment in mind. Katy has now accepted the appointment and with Carol’s assistance is already making great plans for 2016. Katy we wish you every success.
Welcome back Marie Bond - Marie has taught classroom music at several primary schools in Townsville since 1989. Marie originally joined the committee in 2011 for 2 years, before heading off to travel around Australia in her camper trailer with her husband Trevor. Marie will assist with preparing program outlines for behind the scenes workers, organizing performance scores for adjudicators, liaising with the competitors to produce rehearsal schedules, registration of entrants, changes to program and smooth running of event from the Green Room.
Welcome Rose Fava - Rose joined the committee in September and has been an enthusiastic member, bringing a fresh viewpoint, a smiling face and lots of ideas to the meetings. We are pleased Rose is continuing this year.
Farewell to Carolyn Lloyd Doolan who has had several periods on the committee since 2004. Carolyn has retired due to other commitments. Thank you Carolyn for your service.

Question: How many people does it take to stick a label on an envelope? Answer: Just ONE, but when you have 700 envelopes it is a very lonely ONE. Can you make it more fun?
The committee are always grateful for any offer of help.
You do not have to hold a committee position (or a degree or qualification) to help us stuff flyers or stick labels on envelopes, deliver posters and flyers to venues and schools around the city, assist with photography, website, newsletters, collecting and archiving our history and all the many tasks that happen behind the scene. If you have any spare time or have a skill you think may be useful, please don’t be shy.
In our next newsletter we will be including a list of areas where help is always welcome.
Congratulations to new Honorary Members
At the AGM on 6th December, Honorary Memberships were awarded to Judy Hunter and Janiece Stark.
joined the committee in 2003 as Secretary and held this position until the end of 2014. Over this period Janiece took on a number of other responsibilities including Newsletter, Front of House Coordinator, Billet Coordinator and assisting in fundraising events and activities. When Ellen Read as the committee member who was responsible for marketing and promotion was not able to continue, Janiece took on a bigger role in that area.
Judy Hunter was on the committee from 2003 until the end of the 2015 competition. On joining the committee, Judy took on the role of event production manager during the actual competition. This role became a huge undertaking over the many years of continued growth of the event. Judy’s contribution to the committee and her work as production manager over many years have played an important part in building up the reputation of the Australian Concerto & Vocal Competition.
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge ALL our Life and Honorary Members who have made significant contribution by way of time or financial support to the ACVC. Fay Burgess, Carol Dall’Osto, Cris Dall’Osto, Dinie Gaemers, Del Greet (dec’d), Susan Grinsell, Judy Hunter, Ellen Read, Eric Read, Kathy Schultz, Janiece Stark
