Our country is on the verge of losing our Democracy. To retain it, we must secure the freedom to vote for all Americans.

Final Weeks to Pass the For the People Act (S.1)

On August 11, 2021, U.S. Senate Republicans blocked debate on the For the People Act (FTPA) and two other necessary and popular reforms to ensure that our democracy represents, reflects, and responds to us.

While continued GOP obstruction was expected, the Senate's window to pass the FTPA-- to preempt voter suppression laws and prevent partisan gerrymandering--has shortened to the first two weeks in September. The only way to pass FTPA will be to amend the filibuster. Senator Joe Manchin is the single holdout to making this happen (Senator Kristin Sinema will follow his lead).

The most important actions we can take:
  • Continue to reach out to our friends and acquaintances in West Virginia who are constituents of Senator Manchin.
  • Join a phone or text bank that patches constituents to Senator Manchin's office. Links below. Senator Manchin's staff encourages these calls!

We New Yorkers are urgently being called upon to help our allies with their state actions below.

Postcarding to Protect the Future of Virginia

This November 2nd, Virginia elects a new government. governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state delegates. Whoever is elected will decide the future of the state’s voting rights laws.

With good turnout in communities of color, this election will safeguard fair voting practices that Virginians fought hard to secure. Working with The Center for Common Ground, Indivisible Ulster is sending postcards to under-represented and/or infrequent voters of color who may typically vote only in Presidential elections. We’re conveying the urgency of voting in this consequential election, informing them of VA’s generous Early Voting dates, (beginning Sept 17) and offering helpful voter resources

Almost a million voters are designated to receive postcards, and The Center for Common Ground will host phone banks multiple times a week to get out the vote! Join our efforts to keep Virginia moving forward as a voting rights state.

Stop the Republican Recall in California

A partisan, Republican coalition of national Republicans, anti-vaxxers, Q-Anon conspiracy theorists and anti-immigrant Trump supporters have petitioned to recall Gov. Newsom (who won 61.9% of the vote in 2018).

Thru September 14th, Californians will be voting on whether to replace Governor Gavin Newsom. Most of the candidates on the ballot are Trumpsters. Our California allies need help to contact as many voters as possible in a very short amount of time. The easiest action we can take is to contact our friends and relatives who vote in California and urge them to vote NO! on the recall FAQs here.
