Last week, Russ Muse taught us from the book of Philemon, and announced our next series will be in James.  Here are some thoughts from Philemon:
  • Paul often wrote to groups of people (i.e. the Church at Colossae) but in this case he wrote to, and appealed to, Philemon on behalf of Onesimus.
  • We have freedom from guilt and shame because of the gospel, and that is what is important to remember and share especially in times like these.
  • Paul discipled and led Philemon to where he would think and act differently. That's how we help one another.
  • Wrap up homework: Read the entire book of Colossians and Philemon, as they connect.
NEW SERIES: James

This Sunday we will begin a new series in the book of James.  To facilitate our journey through this book, in our newsletter each week we will continue to share summary notes from the previous Sunday as well as a link (see button below) to a manuscript-style document you can print out to help you mark your notes and thoughts on the passage.  (Those who have taken a class at The River should be familiar with this form of study. The extra spacing allows you to write/draw as you dive deeper into the passage.)

Russ Muse will open the series, teaching us from James 1:4.

AND THE REVEAL...

The mystery new thing is not the following (which were all fun guesses)
  • bird bath
  • rock prayer garden
  • golf cart for parking help
  • free library for church family to give away/borrow books
It IS a relationship management system (which WAS guessed by one person who searched the logo online) used by a variety of churches including Fellowship Greenville, First Presbyterian, and NewSpring.

Congrats to Sandi Yaggie for winning the drawing and Beth Frazier for figuring it out! (We'll have prizes for you at church!)

Rock RMS is a unique tool. Instead of being software churches buy, it is entirely supported by donations from churches who use it. It is "church management centered on relationships" which very much aligns with our "life change happens in the context of relationships" value.

Instead of a paid technical support team, it is a large community of church staff and volunteer developers and end-users worldwide who make suggestions, build tools, and share very generously with one another with a common goal of advancing the Kingdom of God, following the example of the early church.

Russ Muse and Beth Beutler participated in a virtual conference last week to learn more, and are impressed with the variety of features that will help us build a centralized source of contact information. In addition, we strengthened and made local contacts who have generously offered to be free resources for us as we get involved with Rock. Over time, add-on tools will help us communicate even more efficiently and effectively to help you grow in your faith and fellowship. We'll be taking steps over the next several weeks to learn and implement this tool. Stay tuned!
We are currently meeting in person on Sundays as well as offering live stream here. Details on how we are operating during the COVID-19 situation can be found here.
