Last week, Nate Muse taught us from James 4:13-17  He reminded us of two key questions as we reflect on what we've learned from James so far and then proceeded through a verse-by-verse look at the passage:
  • What kinds of wisdom are there? (3:13-18)  There is wisdom from above, which is from God, but there is also wisdom from below.  All thoughts, opinions, and ideas come from one or the other of these sources of wisdom and have a clear effect on our actions.
  • Why is it important to understand wisdom and its source? (4:1-12) Because it affects the way we look to meet our daily needs.  A desire for joy isn't wrong. Seeking early solutions to obtain it is.
  • v. 13: James points out our tendency to be presumptuous in making plans. This isn't to say planning is wrong, but we are often assuming what we do not know. Is our confidence in OUR plans, or GOD's direction?
  • v. 14:  James reminds us that we don't know what is coming. Our life is a blip, a mist, a vapor
  • v. 15: we are to instead acknowledge that the Lord's will is the determining factor. This should inform our decisions.
  • v. 16: arrogance in following our own plans is evil
  • 17. Whatever action isn't out of confidence in the direction of God is sin.

We are grateful to be able to fellowship in person at the current time. Our desire is to continue meeting in person for as long as we can safely do so. As we enter the holiday season, thank you for being respectful to those who may prefer more social distancing, particularly if they are wearing masks and/or yellow or red bracelets and we welcome you to participate online any week you feel it is safer for you to do so.
#SERVEMAULDIN  Thanksgiving Project THANK YOU

We delivered 100 gift cards to our friends at Messiah Lutheran, and they will include them with the Thanksgiving bags. Thanks for your generous giving!    Stay tuned for our next #servemauldin project.

Looking forward to new things!  We are actively pursuing the next phase of construction that will open up more of the building.  We are also moving toward implementing a church records management and communication system called ROCK.  2021 should be exciting. Stay tuned!
