Last week, Nate Muse shared on the Lord's Prayer, from Luke 11:3-4.  Here are some key points:
  • Sometimes our prayer life feels like a junk drawer - random thoughts and requests we share with the Lord. While that is not wrong, we have a Father who is a King with a Kingdom. Prayer ushers us into the life this kingdom has to offer.
  • Two observations from the Lord's prayer is that it indicates 1) a daily rhythm and 2) is pre-emptive, focusing on things to come.
Give us this day our daily bread.
  • Why do we have to ask? Because living in our Father's kingdom is built on dependence.
  • Our provision often comes from our work, which God gives us the ability to do.
Forgive us our sins.
  • God will meet our physical as well as our spiritual needs.
  • We can enjoy an unhindered relationship with Him, and experience peace, because of His forgiveness.
If trusting Him for our daily needs makes us aware of His provision, trusting Him for forgiveness helps us experience peace.

We forgive others.
  • Forgiving others should be a regular part of our prayer life.
  • We tend to look to ourselves, and we tend to look to others to meet our spiritual needs.
  • Bitterness reveals misplaced dependence. We imprison the offender, holding them to a debt they cannot repay. We are choosing to make our peace contingent on them experiencing the same pain they caused us.
  • If I am living in peace with God, what can that other person do that God can't?  The measure of grace and mercy you experience from the Father will be greater than the hurt you experience from someone else.  The Father's healing will be greater than the hurt.
Lead us not into temptation.
  • Holy living is NOT a result of self-will.
Practical Applications
  • Pray not just words but truths.
    • "God, stagger people with who You are."
    • "Let your rule and reign break in.
    • Become desperately dependent.
    • Pray that you would listen.
  • Pray not just for yourself but others.
  • Pray not just once, but persistently.

#SERVEMAULDIN  February for Firefighters

Our February #servemauldin project will be collecting items for "Movie Night" baskets for our fire department personnel and their families.  The church will provide the baskets and movie, and we'd like our church family to bring individually wrapped snacks (such as popcorn/candy) and drinks (water, sodas) for the baskets.  Please put your donations into the collection bin by Sunday, January 31st.

We will be assembling the baskets on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30pm.
