The Gambling Information Resource Office is part of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation. GIRO alerts are designed to keep you up to date with the latest information including: new developments in research, policy, regulations and laws at local, state and federal government levels. It also includes decisions from the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the courts. GIRO alerts also list upcoming events concerning gambling.

New on the GIRO web pages

GIRO information sheet: GIRO has published a new information sheet that provides a background on the changing gambling environment. This includes information on accessibility and visibility of sportsbetting and online gambling.

Wondering what that piece of jargon means…?
Remember the GIRO pages contain a glossary of terms that are used in literature on gambling. If you come across a baffling term and think it would be a useful addition to our literature let us know

New research

Impact of Structural Characteristics of Electronic Gaming Machines

Recently published by Gambling Research Australia, this study aimed to identify the structural characteristics of gaming machines in Australia and to examine how different structural characteristics affect gambling behaviour. See GIRO’s recent research section for a summary.

News from the VCGLR

Annual Report 2013-2014: The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) recently published its Annual Report for 2013-2014. Download the report here.

Recent VCGLR EGM licensing decisions

Bridge Inn Hotel: On 2 December 2014, the commission heard an application from Montmorency-Eltham RSL to increase the number of EGMs at the Montmorency RSL from 35 to 50. The Banyule City Council opposed the application and appeared at the hearing. However, on 23 December 2014, the commission granted the application.

Upcoming VCGLR EGM licensing hearings

Croydon Hotel: On 20 January 2015, the commission will hear an application from Croydon Hotel (Tgg) Pty Ltd to increase the number of EGMs at the Croydon Hotel in the City of Maroondah from 95 to 105.

Dromana Hotel: On 29 January 2015, the commission will hear an application from Molwin Pty Ltd to increase the number of EGMs at the Dromana Hotel in the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council from 41 to 50.
