Upcoming presentation – Online counselling for problem gambling: who, why, what and how
The foundation is hosting a presentation by Simone Rodda, a research fellow at Deakin University, about online counselling. Simone is currently involved in the development of a self-directed online program with Deakin as well as an evaluation of the use of self-help strategies for problem gambling at Turning Point.
While online chat counselling attracts large numbers of clients across Australia and internationally, there is limited information on its effectiveness. Simone will present the findings from five empirical published papers investigating the who, why, what
and how of online counselling for problem gambling. This includes new information on the characteristics of gamblers accessing online counselling and their readiness to change, as well as their motivations and experiences of accessing a single session of online counselling.
Simone’s presentation will provide important information for future service development, configuration and promotion as well as workforce development for the treatment of problem gambling.
When: Thursday, 30 October 2014, 12:30 – 1:30pm
Where: Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, level 6, 14-20 Blackwood Street, North Melbourne
