New on the GIRO web pages

GIRO information sheets:

GIRO has published 17 information sheets on electronic gaming machines (EGM) spending in Gambler's Help services catchment areas. Each information sheet details EGM spending data from June 2012 to July 2013 and provides data for specific catchments plus the total net EGM expenditure per local government area (LGA). A master sheet provides a series of comparative tables across catchments.

New reports from Gambling Research Australia

Interactive Gambling:

Commissioned by Gambling Research Australia, Interactive Gambling investigates how Australians are using interactive gambling services and its impacts on land-based gambling and gambling-related problems. Data was collected from Gambler's Help services and a three year research study that included a national telephone survey, an online survey and interviews with interactive gamblers. The report provides profile information on people participating in different types of gambling and compares online gamblers with land-based gamblers in terms of participation and problems. Evidence in the report indicates that land-based EGM gambling continues to be the dominant form of gambling associated with problems.

Validation study of in-venue problem gambler indicators:

This important research report validates a series of in-venue observable indicators for problem gambling on EGMs. It also assesses the practical validity of a Gambling Behaviour Checklist (GBC-EGM) that can be used by gaming venue staff to identify and assist at-risk customers. Based on a two year research study undertaken by Swinburne University, this report is a continuation of the 2007 report Identifying Problem Gamblers in Gambling Venues.
