8 responsible digital payments guidelines for fairness, safety, transparency and protection
The Better Than Cash Alliance Responsible Digital Payments Guidelines, launched in July, identify eight good practices for engaging with clients who are sending or receiving digital payments and who have previously been financially excluded or underserved. For clients to adopt and use digital payments, they need to feel protected from risks such as loss of privacy, exposure to fraud, and unauthorized fees. This means that service providers need to proactively take steps to protect their clients and that regulators should ensure a sound consumer protection regulatory framework.

8 Alliance members feature strongly among top scoring countries in Brookings "Advancing equitable financial ecosystems"
Colombia, India, Kenya, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines and Rwanda all scored highly in the new report released this week by the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings.
The report also noted that the Philippines and Mexico were two of just six countries in the report that exhibited either "gender parity or a greater percentage of women than men who reported utilizing formal financial institution accounts."

In Mexico more rural women (38%) than men (32%) have an account thanks to Government social transfers
Mexico has been making great strides to advance financial inclusion. It launched its National Financial Inclusion Strategy in June to accelerate access to financial services for more than half the population, which is currently excluded from the formal and regulated financial system. Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Luis Vinegary, said that the integration of digital payments technology throughout Government entities is critical, and that the cost savings are too valuable to ignore.
