What Can Experiences in Haiti, Kenya, the Philippines & Uganda Teach Us About G2P & D2P E-Payments?
Four new Better Than Cash Alliance / CGAP case studies examine the e-payment experience of G2P and D2P cash transfer programmes in low-income settings in Haiti, Kenya, the Philippines and Uganda, providing others considering shifting to e-payments schemes with tips and pitfalls to avoid. The case studies reveal how each country developed their programme; their current delivery and payment process(es); and the costs and benefits of using e-payments to programmes and providers.

Remote communities in Ghana bank on mobiles
CARE, with a grant from Visa Inc, has launched a programme in Ghana with mobile communications company MTN and Fidelity Bank that offers community savings groups in remote areas access to full-service banking using mobiles. “Connecting people to formal financial services via mobile money has the potential to reduce risks, improve efficiencies and drive scale,” says CARE.

Grameen Foundation has released new studies finding that mobile phone literacy and usability impact poor women’s ability to access and benefit from mobile financial services. Better Than Cash Alliance member the Philippines differed vastly from India and Uganda, the other two country studies, in a number of key areas including mobile phone literacy.
