Book and Wine Pairing
THE VANISHING YEAR by Kate Moretti
This month, I've selected a suspenseful page-turner, it's been called "A Rebecca for the modern age," by author Jenny Milchman. That's one of my all-time favorite books (perhaps due for a re-read since it's been decades) and so anything compared to the Daphne du Maurier classic intrigues me and THE VANISHING YEAR doesn't disappoint.
Our tasting selection this month is the Jacquart Brut Rose Mosaique, from the famed Champagne house, Jacquart. I asked The Savory Grape Wine Shop to select a true Champagne (not just any bubbly) to pair with THE VANISHING YEAR because Zoe Wittaker, the point of view character, lives a charmed life of wealth, high-society and elegance. The book opens with her chairing a benefit gala at the New York Public Library and falsely claiming to have had too much champagne to flee a situation in which her true identity is discovered. And that's just the beginning.
I met Katie at Point Street Reading Series last fall after having only been "Facebook Friends." She is warm and immediately endearing; she's a true supporter of the author community and you'll love her bestselling novels. THE VANISHING YEAR doesn't disappoint. Let's toast to that!
