Book and Wine Pairing
I LIKED MY LIFE by Abby Fabiaschi

Abby and I are both members of an incredible group of debut novelists, 17Scribes, all with our first books out this year. We finally got to meet in February at Point Street Reading Series in Providence.

One of my three book clubs (I do love to read, to sip wine and to talk books!) is reading I LIKED MY LIFE this month. The book follows three points of view, Maddy, her husband, Brady, and her daughter, Eve.

"Maddy is a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, host of excellent parties, giver of thoughtful gifts, and bestower of a searingly perceptive piece of advice or two. She is the cornerstone of her family, a true matriarch...until she commits suicide, leaving her husband Brady and teenage daughter Eve heartbroken and reeling, wondering what happened."

In the book, Maddy's mom was an alcoholic and Gallo wine is referenced. Since I'm not pairing any book with Gallo jugs, I've asked The Savory Grape Wine Shop to select a wine from where the book is set - Wellesley, Massachusetts. Try this wine from Westport, Massachusetts, Westport Rivers Riesling 13. And since Maddy loves chardonnays, we think she would like this Trefethen Chardonnay 2014, "this Napa Chardonnay delights the palate with aromas of pear, lemon cream, toasted brioche & bright white honeysuckle. A full, viscous mouth is balanced by classic Trefethen fruit - pear and lemon - with vanilla oak notes."

"A heartbreaking and ultimately heartwarming read about life, death, and family." ―PopSugar, A Best Winter 2017 Book
