Transition Town Reading Newsletter
Hello from your new steering group!

We met together properly for the first time yesterday for a hand-over with the former steering group, and are excited about the coming year in Transition Reading! Thank you for voting us in, and thank you to the former steering group for paving the way. We are:
Coordinator: Chris Klassinski
Secretary: Rich Waring (not yet official, stood since AGM, to be voted on at next meeting)
Communications: Rachel Miller
Treasurer: Vacant  (you perhaps?)
Steering group members: Sarah Drummond, Sabrina Piegrossi, Alan Clark and Chris Burden

Treasurer Position

We are still short of a treasurer. It's vitally important that we have a treasurer to help us keep our finances in order. If you are unsure of the role, we will make sure you have sufficient support, handover and training. The overall role of a Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
If you are interested in this role or would like to find out more, please reply to this email on

Future Transition Meetings

It was decided that more regularity will help us ensure we meet regularly, keep projects going, get to know each other better and make it as easy as possible for new people to join. For a trial period, we will meet every Monday, with each meeting having a different focus (so there is no need to attend every meeting, just the ones you are interested in!)
1st Monday of the Month - Steering Group, business meeting (everyone welcome, but possibly not everyone's cup of tea - will be reviewing things like finances, communication, TTR procedures, dealing with issues that may have arisen - not an ideal 1st meeting if new to TTR)
2nd Monday - Heart and Soul - A chance to openly discuss hopes, fears and feelings about Transition, the concept of peak oil and pressures in our everyday lives

3rd Monday - Transition Projects Meeting - A getting things done meeting! This is the main meeting for members to come along to, to find out what's going on, input into what we might plan to do and be involved in how things develop
4th Monday - Social - often music and craft focused, meeting in a room at a pub, cafe or someone's house.
5th Monday - If we're lucky enough to have a 5th Monday, we will organise a shared meal, either on that day or the weekend before.

The upcoming for meetings are therefore:
Monday 10 June   8:00pm   Heart and Soul   At Rich Waring's house, Woodly. Please contact him on for the full address
Monday 17 June   7:30pm   Projects Meeting   Possibly at new RVA premises, 18 Duke Street RG1 4RU, above Futon Shop (tbc, please watch this space for confirmation)
Monday 24 June   7:30pm   Music and Knitting   In upstairs room at Bills Cafe (St Marys Church House, Chain St, Reading RG1 2HX)
Monday 01 July     7:30pm   Steering Group Meeting   Venue TBC

Transition at East Reading Festival
Transition will have a stall at East Reading Festival on Sunday 16 June, which is a fantastic chance to speak to others about what Transition does and hopefully get more people involved! Any help on the day would be much appreciated. Please email
